“Was it you? Did you make it?”
“No,” I say right away. “It was Rodney.”
“What?” Calloway is practically shouting now, looking between me and the living room. “Rodney? Like the streamer? He was here and he made thatamazingnest?”
“Yes.” I stare at my son for a long moment. “Is that, umm, is that okay?”
“Is that okay?” Calloway parrots the question, looking like I’ve grown two heads. “I don’t know how to feel right now. I’m jealous that he can make such nice nests but at the same time, I’m so happy because now that I’ve seen a good one, maybe I can replicate it?”
“I’m sure it’s just like anything, babe. You just have to practice.”
“You just have to practice,” he says in a mocking tone that makes me raise my brow. “Sorry, but like, Iknow, Dad! I know but it’s still frustrating.”
“I know. We should just automatically be good at everything first try.”
“Exactly,” he says, nodding his head. We go into the living room together, my cheese completely forgotten about. “Can I get in it? You guys didn’t do anything in the nest, right?”
I roll my eyes at my son. “You’d smell it if we did.”
“Right. Gross, but good point.” Calloway crawls into the nest and sighs. “Okay. The pillows are a nice touch. I like that it’s connected to the coffee table for your legs. All it needs is scented items. I could add some of our clothes to the sides and it would smell better.”
Calloway jumps off the couch, running to his bedroom. I can’t help but smile, watching as he goes. I go back into the kitchen, finishing up my cheese prep. Then I pull out my phone.
Gayle: Calloway is very impressed with the nest you left
Rodney: You didn’t tear it down after I left?
Gayle: It was comfy so I kept it. That’s not weird, right?
Rodney: Not weird. I think it’s really cute.
Gayle: Great, now I’m blushing
Rodney: You’re ridiculously pretty when you blush. Makes me want to bite you
Gayle: Interesting reaction…
Rodney: :)
Rodney: Tell me if this is too much but, if Calloway ever wants help with his nests, I’m happy to be there for him.
Rodney: Shit, that’s probably too much too soon
Rodney: IGNORE ME GAYLE ITS FINE
Gayle: I would have to ask him, but I think he’d really appreciate that
Rodney:... really?
Gayle: Mhmm
Rodney: Okay <3 I’d like that too. Do you wanna call tonight?
Gayle: Yes please! :)
I always love Mondays because that’s the day Calloway comes back home. I always make sure to make whatever he likes on Monday so tonight, is grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade soup. Once we’re done eating, I go into my stream room and get my stream going.
Today, we’re back to battle royales. Sometimes, I’ll play on my smurf account but tonight, I’m playing ranked matches, putting me up against players who’re ranked the highest tier, just like me. I play until I finally win a match. By the time my stream is over, I’m properly exhausted but not too exhausted to miss my call with Rodney.
