“Charles and Daniel. Why? You’re making me nervous, man. Did I fuck up?”
“No, not at all. Just wanted to know what was going on. By the way, who is the brunette? She new?”
Marcus shifts in his chair and his cheeks turn pink, his hand fists on his thigh.“Cheryl. She got hired a few weeks ago. She’s fantastic, fast learner, and great with customers. Why?”
I can see it written all over his face. He thinks I’m going to take her. I’m not, but I also don’t like the idea of him fucking the staff and getting sexual harassment charges.
“No reason just wanted to know who is under my employ.” Relief washes over his face and he points his thumb over to the door, “Anything else, boss? I’ve got a full house and I need to get back.”
“No, head out. I’ll be in here for a while then head to Silk.” Marcus is almost at the door before I say, “Oh, and by the way, I’m getting married in two weeks, so no need to stress about Cheryl. But be careful there.” I point at him, as his face is a combination of shock and embarrassment.
Giving him a cocky grin. “Last thing I need is more female drama.”
“Married? You’re getting married?” He’s pointing at me.
“Yes. I’ll have a staff meeting once I get back from New York. But for now, just keep it to yourself.”
“Sure thing. Married?” He mumbles, shaking his head as he leaves the office. Carlos closes the door and walks over to drop into Marcus’s empty seat.
“Want me to check out Silk? See what those two are up to?”
“Yeah. I don’t have a good feeling about them in the club. Especially right before the meeting. Check on them and get back to me. I’ll be here for a while. I have to call Chris and Sebastian. I’d like to pass a few things by them tonight.”
Carlos stands up and heads to the door. “I’ll send you a text to let you know what those two assholes are up to.”
“Thanks.” I chuckle as I start the text to my brothers.
An hour later, Christian comes through the door and closes it behind him.
“Holy shit, this place is banging tonight. It’s crazy out there!” He thumbs at the door as he makes his way to the empty chair across from me.
I look behind him and I don’t see Sebastian. “Where is he?”
“He who?”
“Sebastian? Is he not coming?” I raise one dark eyebrow at him.
Christopher looks at the floor and back at me, pessimism written on his face. “Yeah, he’ll be here. He’s still pretty upset. You guyshave got to work this shit out. I don’t want to bring up old wounds, but you two need to cool the testosterone.”
“I’ll apologize when he gets here. I was out of line. This whole thing is putting me out of my element, and I can’t afford that right now.”
I rub my hand over my face and lean on the desk. “I didn’t expect to get married this soon, and she’s not exactly my type, but I’ll try to keep my temper under control around him. He seems to think she’s his, and she’s not.”
That last part comes out a bit more aggressive than I had intended.
“That right there, that’s what I mean? He just wants to be her friend. You need to bottle that shit up. He will not take her from you.”
I just glare back at him, shaking my head. Christopher looks at me, and a small smile breaks out on his face.
“You like her?”
“No!” I bark back too fast.
“Yes you do,” he points at my face, “Holy shit!”
Then he leans back in his chair and starts laughing. “You actually like her!”
“Fuck you!” I push the paper around my desk, trying to avoid him seeing some truth to his words in my eyes.
