“So I’ll back off. Give you space to figure shit out before I step in.”
This is everything. “Thanks. And I’ll try not to stepintoany shit.”
He grins. “I’m not worried about that.” He stands and opens his arms to prompt a hug. Getting out of my chair, I complete the embrace, and we both pat each other’s backs.
As we come out of the hug, Landon takes his seat again.
“This doesn’t mean I don’t get veto rights on shows though. What you watching?”
We spend the next couple hours hanging out in front of the TV.
And I do my best to ignore how much I wish I could share what just happened with Avery.
Athlete Buzz,Episode 209.
All the sports buzz with your hosts Pierce and Mike!
Topics this week: Catching up on the MLB playoff race, Rawley Battle’s turnaround, and all the other buzz from NFL training camps
[Minute 10:12]
Pierce: So, Mike—our next topic. I need to start by saying that I always admit when I am wrong.
Mike: That’s fair. You do.
Pierce: And when it comes to Rawley Battle, I’m not afraid to say I have egg on my face after his first two weeks at training camp.
Mike: The reports are great, aren’t they?
Pierce: Fucking glowing.
Mike: Yeah.
Pierce: I mean, good for him. We always love it when a player turns it around.
Mike: That post the other day, it seemed to make him a lot of fans too.
Pierce: Yeah, not necessarily my thing, but a lot of Buzzers liked it, from the comments—well, why don’t you read it, Mike.
Mike: Okay, sure. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, Rawley posted a picture of himself in the stands of the Waves’ stadium, facing the field.
Pierce: With his jersey on, the photo taken from the back.
Mike: Yep. And then the caption was “In case you need to hear it today, you’re perfect as you are. You are enough.”
Pierce: He exploded the internet with it, although the fact that his girl Avery Parker commented “Love this” probably helped [they chuckle].
Mike: No doubt.
Pierce: So we’ll keep an eye on Rawley’s first preseason game appearance this coming week, but all signs are positive coming out of Orlando…

AVERY
The day after we got home from Brooklyn, we’re back on a plane for another road trip.
The slog should be tiring, but the adrenaline from the All-Star game and our playoff trajectory is holding my exhaustion at bay.
