As they walked to the car, Lisa couldn’t help but notice a tic of tension at Nathan’sjaw and hoped she had done the right thing asking Dom to join them in France. Luckily the car next to them had moved, and she was able to get in without difficulty.
‘You didn’t mind me asking Dom along, did you?’
‘No, of course not.’
‘Then what’s up?’
Nathan met her gaze. ‘What talk was Dom referring to?’
‘When?’ Lisa felt her cheeks blush.
‘You know when. He said he waspleased we had our talk. What talk was he referring to?’
Her mouth felt dry as her throat tightened. ‘The one about Pip.’ Her voice came out on a wobble. ‘I spoke to Dom about wanting to talk to you.’
‘So you told him first?’ Nathan glanced at her, hurt evident in his eyes.
‘Yes, but Flick knew too. Dom’s my friend—’
‘Now. He’s your friend now.’
‘He’s never been anything more.’Lisa thought about when she had first met Dom, how the two of them had flirted with each other and even gone on a date or two before she told Dom she had feelings for Nathan, and he had told her while he had had girlfriends, his preference was for men.
‘Flick knew. I told her. It was no different.’ Even to her own ears that sounded weak. The circumstances under which she had told her two friendsabout losing Pip were very different; Felicity had listened and been a comfort at a time when she needed it, Dom had been a sounding board to gauge what Nathan’s reaction might be.
‘Really?’ Nathan looked at her, incredulous, before driving out of the car park.
