“You or candy?”
“Either one.”
Kennedy took River’s hand and replied, “I want s’mores fudge. A small piece. Then, maybe you’ll let me steal a bag of my lemon-lime candy for the road.”
“I’ll even let you have two if you promise to come back.”
“Hey, it’s just a few days.” Kennedy cupped her cheek with her free hand.
“I know. We’ve just spent every night together since that first one, with very few exceptions, so it’ll be weird without you next to me every night.”
“I will see you Thursday night, babe. Calista is covering this place the whole weekend, but you’re going to talk to her about the possible expansion stuff soon, right?”
“She won’t care about that, but I also don’t need money from her now to make it happen. The shop being so successful will help with any other kind of loan I might need.”
“So, I will see you this weekend, and you can hang out with me on set.”
River nodded and said, “I’ll be there.”
“And after that, we can start talking about whatever we want to do when I’m done filming.”
“Yes.”
“Then, we’re all good, babe. I’ll text you constantly until you’re annoyed with me, and I’ll FaceTime you every night.”
“I won’t be annoyed, trust me,” River replied. “I missed you when we weren’t even dating yet.”
“Me too. Now, come on. Take me downstairs.”
“If I wear that thing you got us, can we use it down there? We still haven’t.”
“You want to put it on now?” Kennedy asked her, and when River nodded, Kennedy laughed and said, “Okay.”
“Should I bring… Will you need lube?”
“Well, if you give a girl a little foreplay first, probably not.”
River nodded again and ran over to the drawer where she’d stored their first strap-on. First, because Kennedy had already acquired another one that she would keep at her place, which was not the one she had shared with Cameron. That house had been sold, and Kennedy had decided to rent a storage unit for most of the furniture and stay in a condo near the set, owned by the studio, until she and River decided what they wanted to do with their living situation after she finished filming. There were still things that they needed to figure out, but River knew that they would and that they’d do it together.
“What?” she asked after she’d gotten ready and turned to see Kennedy staring at her.
“Thisis part of the foreplay,” Kennedy replied with a wink. “Come on.”
When they went downstairs, River checked the fridge for the fudge she knew Kennedy wanted and, finding none, she tried to decide if she should make a new batch for her or get some from the front display case.
“Babe?” Kennedy wrapped her arms around River from behind and cupped her. “What’s taking so long?”
“I need to go up front to get your fudge. We’re out back here. Thirty seconds, and you’ll have it. Then, I’ll have you.”
Kennedy laughed, and River hurried out of the room and into the front to the counter. Finding what she needed, she cut a chunk off the larger piece there and was about to go, but she heard something. She looked up and saw Lacey and Cameron standing outside. Lacey had just knocked on the glass and was waving at her.
“What the hell?” River asked no one and set the fudge down, knowing she couldn’t just not say hello. “Uh… Kennedy?”
“Yeah?” Kennedy asked back.
“Your ex-girlfriend is here with my ex-girlfriend.”
“What?” Kennedy asked and walked through the door. “Oh.” She waved at them. “What are they doing here?”
