You stupid, stupid girl.
He pulls the blanket off of me and begins to strip me out of my frozen pajamas. The last thought I have before I force myself to another place mentally,I wish I had just frozen instead.
Chapter thirty-three
Two weeks after thebreak in, I’m still staying at Maverick’s house. I can honestly say, as unsure as I was at first, this was the best choice. He works from the house a lot, and when I have a shift at the bar, he comes when he doesn’t have to go to Perdition–the new casino that he and Karson are going to be signing a security contract for. I’m finally sleeping again at night and the feeling of eyes being on me all the time has pretty much stopped.
I’m not alone anymore, which has been a bit of an adjustment, but I’m happy that it’s him that I’m with now. I’m still having a hard time wrapping my head around how he so easily managed to break down the walls I had built around myself, but he did. He’s also stopped trying to get me to tell him my secrets, staying true to his word. One day soon I will tell him everything, he deserves to know the truth about me and what I did.
Laying on my back in the california-king sized bed, I look over to the closet and shamelessly watch as Maverick gets dressed. He pulls on a pair of black slacks, and tucks in his white button-up shirt. He rolls up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows, showing off his ink, then lifts his head up to catch me staring. He lifts an eyebrow, and a playful grin tugs at his lips.
“Don’t give me that look, Sweetheart, or I’ll have to blow off this meeting with Michael and keep you tied up in this bed for the rest of the day.” He says as he stalks toward the bed. When he reaches the edge, his hand wraps around my throat, forcing my head to crane upward to look him in the eye. “Are you wanting me to tie you up, Raven? Was three times not enough for you this morning? You say the word, and I’ll cancel everything, right now.” He growls and drops a soft kiss to my lips. My pussy tightens, and I can’t think of anything I’d like to do more, than stay in this room, bound and at his mercy.
“As much as I would love that, you can’t reschedule this meeting. And I’m needed at the bar tonight.” It’s Halloween, and every year at Doc’s we host a party. It tends to be one of the busiest nights we have all year. There’s live music, and a costume contest. “Plus, I’m working with Ashlynn tonight, and I feel like I haven’t seen her in forever.” His grip on my throat tightens slightly, and the muscle in his jaw clenches.
“So you’d rather see her, than stay here with me?” He teases and I roll my eyes.
“Jealous, Cain?” I tease. He squeezes a little harder, but not enough to take away my air and heat blooms in my core.
“Of anyone who gets to spend time with you, Sweetheart. I’m not too big of a man to admit it.” He holds me there for a moment, his green eyes boring into mine. Using the hand around my throat, he lifts me up and pulls me into him. His lips slam into mine and I gasp into his mouth. Our tongues collide, and they swirl together in a deep and passionate kiss. He pushes me back onto the bed and climbs on top of me. Wrapping my legs around his waist, I pull him closer as we continue kissing. Before it can go too far however, Maverick breaks the kiss and looks down at me with a smile.
“You’re right though. I can’t reschedule.” He whispers and I pout. He chuckles then drops a chaste kiss to my lips before standing back on the floor.
“Well that was just mean.” I mumble as I sit up to glare at him.
“I’ll make it up to you after work tonight.” He promises, and the sound of Karson’s bike pulling into the driveway signals the end of our time. Pulling on a sweatshirt, I follow Maverick down stairs and the door bursts open. Karson stands at the entryway, and a twisted grin plasters all over his face.
“Hope I’m not interrupting anything.” He says sarcastically. “Your time with him is up now, Babe.” He points to his chest. “It’s my turn, give him back.” I snort and roll my eyes, knowing where this is going.
“She’s not yourbabe, fucker, stop calling her that.” Maverick says through gritted teeth. Karson very clearly enjoys pissing people off, because in the two weeks I’ve been here, he calls mebabeany chance he can. His grey eyes twinkle with excitement when he watches Maverick spiral over it. Maverick turns to me and wraps his hand possessively around the back of my neck, and pulls me into another deep kiss. I might be a little crazy, because Ilovewhen he gets possessive like this. He breaks the kiss, and we both look at Karson who’s wearing a bored expression with his hand on the doorknob.
“Chill the fuck out, Mav. Come on, let’s go.” He walks out of the house and climbs onto his bike. Slater’s car is now parked at the end of the driveway as well. He stands next to Karson’s machine and they engage in conversation. I haven’t gotten to know Slater as well as I have Karson, he’s very illusive. But what I have learned about him, I can see why these two trust him as much as they do. He’s very private.
“I’ll see you tonight, Sweetheart. I’ll be at Doc’s as soon as I can.” He tells me. I nod and stand on tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
“Ride safe.” I say, and watch him exit the house. He gets on his R1, then he and Karson pull out of the driveway, Slater following them. The sun has already started setting, which tells me it’s about six o’clock. Shutting the door, I make my way back upstairs to shower and get ready for my shift.
It’s eleven p.m and the Halloween party is in full swing. The bar is packed with people in costumes of all different kinds. Ashlynn and I bob and weave past each other gracefully behind the bar as we try to keep up with the customers. Truth be told, we could probably use a third body tonight, so we’re not running around as much. But, it feels good to be here with just her. The live band begins their set, and most of the crowd turns to watch the entertainment. Their half drunken rendition ofNight Movesby Bob Seger starts, and I can't help the smile that plays on my lips, humming along to the music. Cole stands in his usual spot watching the crowd, and Ashlynn and I take advantage of everyone being preoccupied by the music.
“Phew! This party is even crazier than last year.” Ashlynn says as she wipes her forehead with the back of her hand. She looks over to me as I start to wash some of the glasses and smiles. “I’ve missed you so much! We need to have a girls day to catch up.”
“Yes, please. I have so much to tell you.” I’ve seen her during shift changes here, but she seems preoccupied lately and rushes out before we have any chance to talk. Her jaw drops and she stares at me, stunned. “What?” I laugh.
“Did Parker Ellis just say yes to a girls day? Pinch me, I must be dreaming.” She jokes and we share a laugh. “So, we’re both off tomorrow. How about when we rise from the dead, we go out for dinner and you can tell me everything?”
“That sounds-” I start, and the sound of bottles breaking snaps both of our heads in the direction of the floor in front of the bar. The crowd is so big, we can’t get a clear view on what’s happening, but I look over to see Cole launch himself off of the wall and into the crowd.
Oh, shit.
Before we know it, an all out brawl breaks out. The band stops playing as their members join the fight. Pool sticks are being used as weapons, and beer bottles are being broken over the tables. A bottle is launched in our direction, and we duck just in time. It slams into the back wall, sending most of our stock crashing to the floor. Alcohol pours down the wall in a sort of waterfall, and puddles at our feet as we try to duck underneath the bar.
“What the fuck happened?!” Ashlynn shouts over the crowd, and I can barely make out what she’s saying.
“I don’t know!” I yell back and try to stand from under the bar top to peer out into the crowd. I’m able to catch a glimpse of Cole, who’s attempting to apprehend a man while being hit from all sides by a few others. Another bottle hurls in my direction and I drop back down just in time. It crashes into the wall, taking the rest of our stock down with it.
“Christ! This is bad.” I say. Pulling out my phone, I try to call Maverick to see where he is. Him and Karson should be here soon, and they can help break this up. Ashlynn and I can’t handle a crowd this size, and Cole is getting his ass handed to him. Pulling up his contact, I tap on it and place the phone to my ear, covering the other. It’s so loud in here I can barely hear the other end ring. Hanging it up and putting it back in my pocket, I look over to Ashlynn.
“I’m going to try to go outside and make a call to get some help. Stay right there.” I tell her.
