FORTY-TWO
NAVIRA
Three months of waiting. Three months of careful planning, of morning sickness that had him hovering like a protective shadow, of his hands constantly finding her still-flat stomach with wonder and fierce protectiveness. His Alpha instincts had reached almost unbearable heights, and she could feel how every second of separation tested his control.
“He really does look like he’s about to storm up here and carry you off,” her father murmured, his voice warm with affection and just a hint of amusement.
Navira laughed softly, the sound carrying on the ocean breeze. The violinists positioned near the arch lifted their instruments as Navira and her father approached the makeshift aisle that had been created with more scattered rose petals and small lanterns that would glow as evening approached. The first haunting notes of the wedding march floated across the beach, and every head turned toward her.
But Thalric’s reaction was the only one that mattered. His storm-grey eyes locked onto hers with a burning intensity that made her knees weak, and she watched his pupils dilate as his gaze traveled over her form. The dress fit her perfectly—flowing silk that accentuated every curve while still maintainingan elegant, ethereal quality that seemed to glow in the twin suns’ light.
Through their bond, she felt his control fracture just slightly. Desire crashed into her consciousness—raw, primal, and barely leashed. His wolf was clearly fighting to remain still, to follow proper ceremony, when every primal instinct screamed at him to claim his mate immediately.
Easy, she sent through their telepathic link, allowing a teasing warmth to color the mental caress.I’m not going anywhere.
His response was immediate and scorching. You’re mine. Finally, completely mine.
The possessive certainty in his mental voice sent shivers of anticipation down her spine as she and her father made their way down the petal-strewn aisle. Pack members smiled and nodded as she passed, but their approval felt distant compared to the magnetic pull of her mate waiting for her beneath the arch.
When they finally reached Thalric, her father paused, his weathered hands gentle as he took both of hers. “Your mother would be so happy to see you this radiant,” he said quietly, his voice thick with emotion.
Tears pricked at Navira’s eyes, but they were tears of joy rather than sorrow. “Thank you for everything, Dad. For always believing in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself.”
He squeezed her hands once more before turning to face Thalric. The Alpha stepped forward, his presence commanding even in this moment of ceremony, and when he spoke his voice carried the weight of absolute conviction.
“I swear to you, Robert, that I will protect her with my life. She will never want for anything—not safety, not love, not the freedom to be exactly who she is. Your daughter has become theheart of our pack, and I will spend every day proving worthy of the trust you’re placing in me.”
Her father nodded. “I know you will. Take care of each other.”
He placed Navira’s hand in Thalric’s, and the moment their skin touched, electricity shot through the mate bond. Thalric’s fingers closed around hers with gentle possessiveness, his thumb stroking across her knuckles in a gesture that was both tender and claiming.
Her father stepped back to stand beside Kaelen, who offered him a respectful nod before returning his attention to the ceremony.
The pack elder, a distinguished wolf with silver hair and kind eyes, stepped forward with a warm smile. His voice carried easily across the beach as he began the traditional blessing.
“We gather here today where the ocean meets the shore, where two souls become one under the watchful eyes of our ancestors and the blessing of the sea that sustains us all. Alpha Thalric and Luna Navira, you stand before your pack not just as individuals choosing love, but as leaders whose bond will strengthen and guide us all.”
He paused, his gaze moving between them with approval. “The sea wolves have always understood that true strength comes not from standing alone, but from finding the one soul that completes your own. Today, we witness not just a wedding, but the forging of a partnership that will lead our pack into the future.”
Navira felt the weight of those words, the responsibility and the honor of being Luna, but beneath it all was the simple, overwhelming truth—she loved this man with every fiber of her being, and nothing had ever felt more right than standing here beside him.
“It is time for your vows,” the elder announced, his eyes twinkling with warmth. “Alpha Thalric, please share your heart with your mate.”
Thalric turned to face her fully, his hand still holding hers, and for a brief moment the controlled Alpha mask slipped away completely. What she saw in his storm-grey eyes was raw, honest, and utterly vulnerable—the man beneath the title, the heart beneath the armor.
“Navira,” he began, his voice thick with emotion, “three months ago, you walked into my life and shattered every wall I’d built around my heart. I thought I knew what strength was—control, strategy, the ability to lead without letting anyone see my weaknesses. But you showed me that real strength comes from vulnerability, from opening your heart even when it terrifies you.”
His thumbs stroked across her knuckles, and she could feel his sincerity pouring through their bond. “You challenge me every day to be better—not the perfect Alpha I thought I needed to be, but the man I actually am. You saw through my masks and loved me anyway. You stand beside me as an equal, never behind me. You’ve given me a partnership I never knew I needed and a love I never believed I deserved.”
Tears were flowing freely down Navira’s cheeks now, but she didn’t care. This was Thalric as she’d never heard him—completely open, completely honest, completely hers.
“I promise you that I will never try to control or diminish the fire that makes you who you are. I will protect you and our child with everything I have, but I will also trust your strength and support your dreams. I will be your partner in all things—in leadership, in parenthood, in whatever adventures await us. And I will love you with everything I am for all the days of our lives.”
The raw emotion in his words, the absolute certainty and devotion, left Navira speechless for a moment. Through theirbond, she could feel the depth of his love, the way it had transformed him from the inside out.
“Navira,” the elder prompted gently, “your vows.”
She took a shaky breath, looking into Thalric’s eyes and seeing her entire future reflected there. When she spoke, her voice was clear and strong despite the tears.
