“They’re not done yet,” he adds.

Neither am I.

I open my eyes again.

Focus on him.

“Did they get the mom’s out?”

He exhales quietly. “Yeah.”

A beat.

Then—

“Thank you for coming for me.”

“I wasn’t going to leave you.”

That settles something deep in my chest.

Something that’s been there longer than I want to admit.

I study him for another second.

Then whisper—

“…knew you’d come…”

His jaw tightens slightly.

Emotion flickers there.

Unhidden this time.

“I always will.”

The words land.

Heavy.

Real.

And for the first time since all of this started—

I feel something steady.

Something safe.

Not the hospital.

Not the machines.

Him.

My fingers tighten just a little more in his.

“I’m… glad…”
