When he finally reached my mirror, the other officer stopped at my back passenger side window. I lowered my window enough to speak before my eyes landed on the last person I wanted to see.Sergeant.

“Good evening, Liora.” He greeted me by name with a big dumb ass grin on his face.

“Evening. Is there a reason you pulled me over, Officer?”

He grinned even harder, like this was some sort of cat and mouse game. “Yeah, you missed two stop signs and your tints are illegal here.”

My jaw tightened and I looked ahead to cool down what I wanted to say to him.

“But we can make all of that go away if you go to dinner with me.”

I turned and looked him up and down. I could’ve popped his bubble in the worst way possible, but I considered my sister and the fact that this man was at her dinner parties every damn week. “I’m seeing someone, so go ahead and write the ticket.”

He was stunned, completely taken aback by my response.

As a matter of fact, I was taken aback too because was I?Well yes, I was seeing someone unofficially, huh.

“Well how about I let you off with a warning and trust you’ll let me know when he fucks up.”

I faked a smile because that shit was so corny my stomach was doing freaking somersaults. When he finally walked away from my car, I pulled off, turning right into the parking garage.

Damn, was I actually seeing somebody?

The sheetsbeneath me were cool and a deep storm blue while his body hovered over mine, holding me in place. I should have taken my ass home, one night where I slept in my own bed, but I hadn’t. I was under him, both physically and mentally. I was too comfortable and I knew it, but I couldn’t make the necessary steps to become uncomfortable. This wasn’t me.

“What you over there obsessing about?”

I blinked a few times, coming out of my thoughts and my eyes were on his as he dropped his body, becoming comfortable on top of me.

“You really wanna know?”

“You really wanna tell me?”

“I had contact with my boss.”

He lifted his head and looked me in my eyes, something in his I couldn’t quite place. “You going back?”

“Not in the same capacity.” I was holding on to each word I said, watching his reaction and gauging my own.

“Meaning?”

“More stillness. Here more than anywhere else. Probably won’t be on the ground as much. It would be more like oversight.”

“Does that bother you?”

“I don’t know. Lee and Sissy have been on my case about not disappearing. I’d like to say I’m not for them, but it’s more than that, right? More than for them.”

He lowered his head, his ear against my chest and hands gripping my sides. “You tell me, Killa.”

Who was I kidding? It was for more than them. More than me. Somewhere along the line it became for him too, even though I didn’t say it.

I just looked at him.

“Open up for me, Killa.”

I didn’t know which way until I felt his hands between my legs, pushing the seat of my underwear to the side.

“Shit,” I mumbled; the word damn near fumbling from my lips.
