“Well, I promise, this is one trip you will never forget.”

Jayden
Jake has been acting weird the entire trip, like he’s on edge or nervous about something. I mean, we’ve had a great time so far. We’ve been to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Sea World. We’ve had romantic walks on the beach each morning and early evening. It’s totally been like a honeymoon. I wish he would talk to me and tell me what is bothering him, but I don’t push. I know in time, he will tell me.
Today is our last day, but our flights don’t leave until late tonight. Jake promised we could go back to Disney for a couple of hours. Our passes are still good, so there isn’t an added expense there. That place is so magical, I could go there all the time and still find new and fun things to see and do. We pack our things and head downstairs to check out. Jake takes care of everything at the front desk, and we make our way to the parking lot.
He searches his pockets. “I forgot something in the room.” He turns back toward the hotel and goes inside. It seems like an eternity before he returns. “Got it. He reaches in his pocket again and says, “I can’t find the keys.”
I know they were there. I mean, we had to get back last night. They must be in the room somewhere. “Let me go check this time.”
He hands me the room key that he got from the front desk clerk on his initial search. I make my way upstairs and search everywhere, drawers, counters, cabinets, and all around the floor. They are nowhere to be found. Perplexed, I make my way back downstairs and stop at the front desk. “Did anyone happen to turn in a set of Chrysler keys?”
The girl at the desk says no, and I explain to her that we still need the room key to go back up and check.
I got back out to the parking lot shaking my head, “I can’t find them either,” holding out the room key.
He takes the room key from me and heads back into the hotel. Several minutes later, he’s back. “Jayden, I swear I think I am losing my mind. I can’t find those damn keys.”
“Okay, calm down. They have to be there.” Holding my hand out, I say, “Let me go check one more time.”
He hands me the keys.
This time, I check everywhere. Low and behold, the car keys are in the trash can in the kitchen. Jake went through the entire condo and took out all the trash and replaced the bags. He must have had the keys in his hand and didn’t realize he dropped them. Thankfully, he didn’t drop them in the dumpster out back when he took the rest of the trash.
I come back downstairs, looking triumphant. Jake looks worried. “What? I found them.”
“Now I can’t find my wallet.” This is getting ridiculous. I want to go to Disney World, and he clearly doesn’t. He is stalling so we won’t have enough time. I just know it.
“Let me go check.” I go back into the hotel. I walk up to the front desk and ask for the room key again. I swear these people must think we have lost our minds, but she happily gives me the key and I head back upstairs to find Jake’s wallet.
Knowing that the most logical places are not the places to look, I look around the trash cans. I find his wallet behind the trash can in the bathroom. I grab the wallet and leave the room. Maybe now we can go to Disney World. I go back downstairs, drop the key off at the desk with a little joke saying I think we have everything now, and head out to the parking lot. Jake is sitting on the bumper of the car, looking all worried. Poor guy, he’s had a rough morning, but it’s nothing The Place Where Dreams Come True can’t cure.
“Found it!”
“Oh good, we would have been in trouble if I lost my wallet.”
“Uh, yeah.” I grab his hand. “Can we go to Disney World now?”
He looks at his watch then back at me. “Let’s take one more walk along the beach.”
Now I’m getting whiny. “But Jake, I want to go to Disney World.”
“We will, I promise. We still have plenty of time. Come on.” He walks toward the beach, motioning for me to follow. Reluctantly, I do.
About half an hour, he turns to head back. Finally!I’m so disappointed. All this nonsense has cut into our last day at Disney. I know I sound like a two-year-old, but I don’t get trips like this often, and I really wanted to spend our last day there because it is so magical and fun.
As we get closer to the hotel and our car, Jake spots a bench built into the boardwalk wall and he heads toward it.Now what?I don’t say anything though. He has been like this the whole trip, all over the place, and I have a feeling he is finally going to tell me what’s been bothering him.
When we get to the bench, he sits and pats the seat next to him. “Cop a squat,” he says teasingly, and I do as he asks and sit. “I’ve been trying to ask you something all week, Jayden, but the timing has never been just right. Now we are getting ready to leave, and well, the timing is awful. If I don’t get it out now, I swear I am going to lose my mind.”
“Yeah, along with the car keys and your wallet.” I shouldn’t tease because he’s being serious, but he set himself up for that one.
He reaches into his pocket, pulls out a ring box, hands it to me. “Jayden, will you marry me?”
I feel like a real brat. This wonderful, amazing man has been trying to propose to me all morning, and I’ve done nothing but whine about Disney World.
