“Look, I don’t know what’s happening between us, but I want to start over,” I said as I reached up and turned his face toward me. He looked in my direction, reluctantly. “Drew?” When I said his name, his blue eyes grew more intense. “Don’t you want to start over? I don’t know how to do this. Help me?” I quietly pleaded. He stared at me before nodding.

“Okay.”

We spent the rest of the night in Fox’s bed, but we didn’t do much talking about the future of our relationship. Our only focus was pleasuring each other until nothing else existed.

Chapter Nineteen

“Goddammit, Woody!”

“I know. I know. Calm down.”

“Calm down? You fucked up, you do know that, right?”

“Yes. Fuck. Don’t you think I know it? But I’m going to fix it.”

I woke up alone in Fox’s bed to voices coming from the other room. I looked at the clock to see that it was six in the morning and I realized that Fox was talking to Woody, well not really talking but yelling. I tiptoed to the door to listen.

“How? You lost the Florida race. That was your only plan.”

“I still think that call was bullshit. I didn’t false start.”

“Well, it doesn’t matter now, does it? You’re still on the hook for Knight’s money. God, I am so sick of bailing your ass out! When are you going to wake up?”

There was silence for a while and I thought maybe they had gone outside until I heard Woody start to speak.

“If you do this for me, I’ll go to that gambling counselor again.”

I heard Fox snort as if he didn’t believe him.

“I’m serious this time. I can’t keep going like this. I know that. This is the worst it’s ever been. Maybe this is my rock bottom, you know?”

“Dammit, Woody,” Fox growled. “Fuck. Alright but if you miss one session with that counselor, I’m done. You hear me?”

“Thanks, bro. You have no idea. I’m serious this time.”

The two talked a little more about the Florida race. Woody drove straight to Fox’s house from Pensacola and that explained why he was here so early. He complained to Fox about how he was cheated out of the win by a false start call. It sounded like Woody was accused of crossing the starting line before the light flashed. According to the rules, one false start results in an instant loss. Woody went to the race by himself, so he had no crew to back him up and dispute the call. It was one major thing that racer should never do, if there was money on the line it was best to have your own crew to back you up.

I heard Woody leave several minutes later so I quickly and quietly got back into bed. Fox curled up behind me and kissed the back of my neck and shoulder.

“Is Woody okay?”

“Yeah,” he answered, his voice muffled against my skin.

“Are you okay?” I asked, clearly feeling the tension he was carrying.

“Having you here in my bed is already improving my mood immensely.”

“About that. We need to talk,” I said as I twisted in his arms and pulled his face in my direction. He looked at me, reluctantly. My heart broke a little because I realized that he was waiting for rejection from me as it seemed to be our pattern.

“So what do people who are trying to get to know each other do?” I asked and Fox visibly relaxed as he huffed with laughter.

“Harley, we haven’t done a single thing in the right order.” He had a point; the slight soreness between my legs was proof of that.

“You’re right. We skipped a l

ot of steps. What do people do in the beginning? Go on a date, right? Will you go on a date with me, Drew?” I loved the way his eyes softened every time I used his first name.

“Baby, I’m supposed to be the one to ask you out.”
