“Are you coming?” Aurora drew her bare foot up his leg.

“Is that an invitation?” Duncan lifted an eyebrow, rising from his chair.

She flipped her hair with her hand.

“It might be.” Aurora shifted her shoulder purposely, and one of the spaghetti straps on her nightgown fell down.

“You might not get to sleep for a while.”

“That’s why man invented caffeine.” She grinned and waggled her eyebrows.

He stood in front of the bed, exposing his lean, taut muscles to her. She crossed one leg over the other, letting her nightgown ride up. He growled low in his throat as she ran her hand up his abs, then leaned over and slanted his mouth against hers. Hot, wet, her mouth opened to receive him, and her hands wrapped around his neck and held him close. With one hand on the bed to steady himself, he slid the other up the curve of Aurora’s thick calf, under her nightgown, along her voluptuous thigh, to her hip. She bit back a giggle as he realized she’d come to bed without underwear. He stopped kissing her to look at her.

“Temptress,” he growled, and started kissing from her ear down her neck.

Aurora shuddered.

“I’ve missed you.” Her voice was raspy.

“I’ve missed you, too.”

He pulled her to her feet and reached over and hit a button on the wall. Blinds dropped down inside the window. Then with both hands, he lifted her nightgown up over her head. Aurora pulled him in for another kiss while she released him from the towel. His velvet erection probed the soft flesh of her stomach. Hands wandered over fresh skin as their tongues tangled. She groaned softly. He moved away from her mouth and kissed down to her breasts, teasing each nipple as she gasped and threaded her fingers in his hair.

“Duncan …” She shuddered again as he flicked his tongue across her nipples one more time.

“Yes?” He tore himself away from her beautiful breasts, laying kisses back up her throat.

“I—I need …”

“Mm, this?” He slipped one hand down to her wetness, tracing a finger around her opening. She moaned as he watched her face.

“Uh-huh.” She gasped. “Please?”

He leaned her against him and swallowed her cries as he rubbed over her clit, and searing heat engulfed her. Her nails dug into his chest as the orgasm rocked her. Then his fingers thrust inside while his tongue pushed into her mouth until she shook again in his arms. She leaned against the desk in a daze while he dug in his nightstand for a condom. Looking at his armless, sturdy desk chair, she had an idea.

When he had prepared himself, he came back to her and took her in his arms. Taking control, she turned and pressed him into the chair. She straddled him, watching his face as she slid him into her core. Passion pooled in his eyes in the dim light, mirroring Aurora’s own feelings.

Wrapping her arms around him, the words spilled from her lips unbidden, “I’m falling in love with you.” The realization shocked her, but she couldn’t take the words back. Somehow it just felt … right.

“Aurora …” His eyes said everything.

She smiled and sealed her mouth back over his. Then they rocked together as one, making slow, deliberate love to each other.

We Do Not Belong Together

The following day was Katie’s tour of CCA. Thrilled, she followed the student volunteer around and asked all sorts of questions. Aurora found the security, the classes, and even the professors, impressive, as they were all friendly with Katie. She had a meeting with admissions to go over the application process, which she still had to do, and get some extra financial aid information so they could see about using grants for her housing.

Aurora and Duncan sat in the waiting room during her interview. She barely noticed the walls covered in student projects, or the pattern on the floor.

Duncan squeezed her hand. “What’s on your mind, mama?”

“I’m feeling better about her attending here.” Aurora smiled. “The house is going to feel awful empty though.”

“She’ll be back for breaks.” He stroked the back of her hand with his thumb.

Aurora laid her head on his shoulder. Should she bring up the idea of moving? Could she see herself living here?

“I think I’ll start a special fund for all the airfare.”
