“I got vanilla ice cream in my freezer; we could use the brownie to make brownie sundaes.”

“Nadia, you’re a genius! Brownie it is.” Mia finished making her selections and submitted their order. “It says half an hour, but they’re always early for us.”

The squad loved the perks of living across the street from the pizza shop. Another knock sounded at the door. Nadia opened it to reveal Rosie, her brown hair damp and smelling freshly showered. The shy one of the group was blessed with a double dose of curves, which she hid behind her nurse’s scrubs and over-sized tees. Today it was a baggyStar Warsshirt that hung down to her knees over galaxy print leggings.

“Sorry I’m late. I worked a twelve last night. But I remembered the game!” She held up the box that heldTrogdor!!The Board Game.

“I’m ready to burn some peasants!” Nadia bellowed.

“Aren’t we all,” Jade muttered, her cocktail disappearing at an alarming rate.

“You want a drink, Rosie, or will it mess up your sleep schedule?”

“I might be part Irish, but it feels a bit weird to wake up and start drinking.” Rosie shook her head. “I’ll take a soda.”

“Sure thing. Why don’t you get the board set up while I pour?” Nadia headed back to her kitchen.

“Pizza will be here soon, Nad. We should wait.” They seated themselves around her stone dining table that took up half the living room. Considering how much her friend loved to play games, the fact it was such a centerpiece of her space wasn’t surprising. The tiny galley kitchen tucked away in the corner was exactly like Olivia’s, Rosie’s, Mia’s, and Jade’s. Their apartments were structurally identical. The five members of the Geek Girl Squad all lived in the same apartment building. It was cheap and gave them their space while still making hanging out as easy as ever. Mason Hollow Apartments was their grown-up version of a dormitory.

“We could eat and play at the same time,” Rosie offered.

“No way, we’ll get grease on the board.” Olivia wasn’t going to let her friend’s generous nature ruin her game. “Burning peasants can wait until we finish the ritual pizza sacrifice.”

Rosie rolled her eyes as Nadia laughed.

“Yeah, let us appease our inner goddesses with pizza first.” Nadia was good at dramatics.

“Can I be Venus?” Mia piped up, twirling a blonde lock streaked with pink around her finger.

“Speaking of Venus...” Olivia started just as the buzzer for the door sounded. Nadia ran off to get dinner. “I wanted to talk to you guys about that anime convention coming up next month in Annapolis.”
