I squawk, pushing him back so I can drag the sheet over my head. “And have him reject me again, only this time in front of the whole club?” I stare at the fabric brunched in my hands, our combined scents doing little to slow my thumping heart. “No thanks. I’ve already had my turn on the freak stage this week.”

Wings peels the sheet back enough to give me a chiding look. “You’re not a freak. But Bluff is… unpredictable. He could turn up again tomorrow…”

“Or disappear for the rest of my life?”

He sighs, wiggling down so we’re both covered by the sheet. “That won’t happen, butterfly. Haven’t I told you? You’re irresistible.”

“I’m something,” I mutter, huffing hard enough to make the sheet billow around us. “Scent matching is supposed to be instantaneous. He should’ve taken one sniff of my scent and fallen at my feet. Instead, he ran away.Twice.”

Wings clicks his tongue again, softer now. “I think this is ahimproblem, not ayouproblem, Abbie.”

“I know. Alphas have trauma, too.” He raises his brows and I sigh. “It’s something I was reminded of recently. And Bluff told me as much.” How did he put it?He got his brain scrambled in the desert…My heart pinches despite my irritation with him. “I think he’s fighting it because of his injuries. He said I deserved better.”

“Well, you definitely deserve an alpha who sticks around to work it out. But… Bluff has always been different. A loner, from what Ark’s told me. Matching with you probably threw him for a loop.”

I nod, because it’s not like I’ve been in my right mind since we met. “If he’s really hurting, maybe I should just back off. It’s not fair to put him under even more pressure.”

Wings wrinkles his nose at that idea. “Or… we could ask Ark where he lives. If anyone knows it’ll be him.”

I look at him curiously. “Is it some big secret?”

“Well, Bluff was part of the RRC for the Rangers. Deep undercover and reconnaissance work. If he doesn’t want to be found, it’s gonna be hard.”

“Great,” I sigh. Not just a reluctant scent match, but one who’s an expert at going underground. “So, he’s a ghost.”

Like I need another one of those.I huff and roll onto my side, wriggling back until Wings is spooning me from behind. “I think you should tell Ark after the party,” he murmurs in my ear.

“Party?”

“Patch's birthday.” He laughs at my deep, heartfelt groan. “You couldn’t tell that Glory has been cooking up a storm all day?”

Now he’s mentioned it, there have been some pretty amazing smells coming from the kitchen. Not that my stomach has been in much of a state to enjoy them. “I guess I had other things on my mind.”

He murmurs in sympathy. “You want to stay here? It’s going to be pretty hectic, since another club is dropping by.”

I shudder. Not just a party but avisit, which in club terms could be anything from a friendly chat to formal sit-down. It’s the exact opposite of huddling in bed with the blankets pulled over your head and I sigh. “Glory will never forgive me if I skip it.”

“We don’t have to stay too long,” he murmurs, nibbling on the side of my neck. His lips are pillowy soft, but just the slightest graze over my scent gland has me lighting up like a firecracker. “We can dance, have a couple of drinks, sing a few songs...”

I jerk, squeezing the arm wrapped around my waist. “Sing?”

He chuckles softly, the sound pooling in my ear. “Well, I can sing and you can hum.”

“Better for everyone.” I squeeze his arm again. “We’re really going to do this? Talk to Ark, I mean?”

“We are. And then when we know where Bluff is gonna be, we invite ourselves over for a chat. Both of us, if that’s what you want.” I’m already nodding and he bites gently on my ear as his hand slides up to cup my breast. “Now, how about I do something about the butterflies I can feel fluttering around in here?”

Chapter Fifteen: ABBIE

As I get ready for Patch’s party later that night, there’s a sweet ache between my thighs, and I catch Wings’ gaze on me as I gingerly step into my denim skirt. There’s no way I’m getting my swollen pussy into jeans, and he grins proudly, like he knows exactly how much of an impression he made on me. Just clenching my thighs together sends another ripple of arousal through my core, and I huff as Pitt glances at me, his nose lifting to sniff the air. “Are those sexy nerves or stress nerves?”

“Just a few butterflies,” I tell him, ignoring Wings’ cocky chuckle. “Are you on duty tonight?”

Pitt was gone most of the afternoon, working on security preparations for the party. “Yeah, but I’ll still come find you for a dance.” His mouth hooks into a wicked grin. “Assuming Wings’ cock didn’t knock the stuffing out of your legs.”

“Pitt!” I squawk, while the two men laugh at my red face. Assholes.

They’re saved from my retribution by an excited knock on the door. When I pull it open, Tricks’ eyes go wide and she shoots Wings’ a pained look. “Have you never heard of Febreze, bro?Can you at least crack a window?”
