No one's ever ruined me like this with just their voice. It’s terrifying, it’s exactly what I want.
Our breathing slows.
We remain silent until his warm voice comes again inside my ear.
“You have no idea how badly I needed this.”
“Oh, I think I do. Believe me, I felt it.”
I shift a little beneath the sheets, turning onto my side and pulling the pillow close, kind of wishing it was him.
“You alright?”
He chuckles faintly. “Shouldn’t that be my line?”
“Consider the tables turned. I get to check on you too.”
A sigh follows. “I’m good. Better than good.”
I smile, pressing my face into the pillow because I want to scream.
“Glad to hear it.” I say.
Another quiet pause. I’ve never done this after, staying in the moment with someone.
Getting dressed in a rush and legging it has always been standard for me. With Yosh, it feels more than I ever imagined. Essential, even.
“You still there?” he asks eventually.
“Yeah,” I murmur. “Just thinking.”
“About?”
“How much I wish you were actually here right now.”
“Me too. But If I were there, I’d keep draining you until sunrise.”
I laugh quietly. “Is that a promise?”
“Careful, Tom, you might get attached.”
Then I say the unthinkable. “Too late for warnings, Yosh.”
“Good,” he tells me. “Because same.”
I swallow. “Did you manage to get some rest today?”
“Yeah, I slept most of the day. Only went out for yoga late afternoon, then straight back to bed. With you gone, I had plenty of free time.”
“I figured that’s what you needed after everything that happened yesterday, that’s partly why I left, to give you space.”
I hear a soft hum in my ear, “And yet you call me not wasting any time.”
“But did it hurt?”
That gets a laugh out of him. “You're impossible with that sharp tongue, McKenna. Makes me want to strangle and kiss you at the same time.”
“Sounds like a dangerous kind of foreplay. Count me in.”
