“So, you not coming back until right before camp starts? Nigga, when amIgon’ see you?” I couldn’t help but laugh. Nik and I had been attached at the hip basically my whole life, and obviously, he wasn’t taking this time apart well.
“Nik, you know damn well you gon’ see me. I don’t know why you actin’ like this… Sounds like your rotation ain’t rotating too well.”
“Man, fuck you, Chase, matter of fact, bye!” he said, hanging up in my face, and making me laugh at his salty ass.
“Everything okay?” Amaya asked from her seat at the kitchen table as she tapped away on her laptop. It was the weekend and I still couldn’t peel that woman away from work for more than a few hours.
“Everything’s fine. Niko’s ass is just salty. He did all that talkin’ about how I needed to find a real woman and get rid of Pearl, and now that I have one, he’s mad that I’m not down the street.” I damn near slapped myself at that admission, trying not to show any reaction. I could tell by the way she perked up, that her perceptive ass heard me.
“Pearl?” she asked with her nose scrunched up.
“Yeah, my uh… toy.”
“I’m sorry, what?” she asked with a chuckle. I rolled my eyes, knowing her ass was about to roast me worse than the potatoes I was cooking.
“Yeah… you know I was single for a minute. I ordered something.”
“Really?” she asked as her eyes lit up. “Did you bring it with you?”
“Nah, it’s back at the crib,” I answered, still holding my breath for the jokes.
“Damn, I wish you would have! I wanna see it!”
“Forwhat?” I asked.
“So I can use it on you! A helping hand would be great, because I be damn near about to die trying to swallow that big motherfucker! Besides, it would besofun to edge you while you begged for it.”
I laughed at her, no longer embarrassed, but suddenly turned on and a little bit scared. I felt my other head siding with her as my dick suddenly woke up.
“Yeah, aight. I’ll let you play next time we’re at my house together.” I noticed her mood shift as she looked super focused on her laptop. I also noticed how all she was doing was typing the same three words, deleting them, then starting over, so she couldn’t bethatdamn focused.
“What’s that face for?” I asked.
“No reason,” she said, not looking up from her laptop. “I’m just… not sure when I’ll be back out that way.”
“Damn,” I scoffed. “You said it like you’llnevercome back to Cali.”
“No, it’s not like that. Mona and I were talking the other night, and she was all sad and shit, thinking that I was about to just pack up and move out there with you,” she said with a scoff like that was the most ridiculous thing she could fathom. I frowned as I looked over at her.
“And what did you tell her?”
“I told her that I wasn’t about to quit my job and uproot my whole life just to be up under some man,” she said matter-of-factly.
“Some man?” I asked with a threatening eyebrow.
“Myman,” she quipped back, quickly correcting herself.
“That’s what the fuck I thought!” I snapped back, making her poke her lips out.
“But yeah. My whole world is here. I could never just up and move clear across the country. I can visit though,” she said with a bright smile. I knew we weren’t to the point to discuss moving just yet, but I at least thought she would be a little more open to it. I decided not to ruin our dinner with that uncomfortable conversation and put it on the back burner for a later discussion.
Once I finished up with dinner, I walked our plates over to the table—steak and broccoli for me, steak with loaded potatoes, broccoli, and corn for her.
“Chase…” She looked at her plate and sighed deeply.
“What’s wrong?”
“I think you're tryna fucking kill me, that's what!” she shot back.
