“Baby,” he said turning and looking in my eyes so there was no doubt about which one of us he was speaking to. “Relax. I got it.”

“Baby?” Chanel scoffed.

“Yeah, we’re together. Chanel, what the fuck are you doing here? You’re supposed to be in rehab!”

“Y-Yeah, but you know Inevermiss this! I left early.” All the air left Chase’s body in the form of an exasperated sigh. He told me that he had already made peace with it, but he really hoped that she got her shit together for her own sake. Looking at the bloodshot eyes, and hearing the slur in her words, let me know that shewas drunk at the very least, and I was sure the rehab that she escaped from wouldn’t have approved.

“Listen, I told you what it was with us the last time I saw you. There is no us, we’re done. I don’t know what part of that is so hard for you to understand, but you need to go before you get yourself arrested. You’re not even supposed to be here.”

“I’m here foryou,Chase. I just—I want us to work this out! Stop being dumb and come on. You can’tpossiblybe happy withher.” She turned to me with a disgusted look on her face like that nigga’s face didn’t have permanent residency between my legs. “You know he’ll never love you the way he loves me, right? You’re just a placeholder,” she spat.

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.

“Baby,” I called, turning to him with the shittiest shit eating grin on my face. “You buying PJ’s for ‘placeholders’ now?” I asked with a brow cocked, finally glad I got to flex onsomebody. The fact that it was her made it even sweeter.

“PJ? Nigga, Iknowyou didn’t buy this bitch a jet! The most you ever bought me was some cheap ass jewelry after all these years!”

Ten, nine, eight, seven—fuck this!

Chase must have saw her life flash before his eyes because he scooped me up into some type of bear hug and snatched me away before my hands could connect. I was both pissed off and impressed at how he shut me down, but Chanel’s small victory didn’t last long as a couple security guards came up and whisked her away. I stood there watching until she completely disappeared before turning back to him. I wouldn’t admit it, but I was dreading seeing any hurt in his eyes because of her. I had no problem getting locked up too, just so she could see me in County.

“I’m sorry,” I said softly. “I know that probably wasn’t easy.”

“Baby, I’m good. Come here,” he assured me, pulling me in for a kiss. I savored his lips for a moment before I cursed under my breath.

“I should have beat thefuckout of that girl. You got me out here lookin’ soft.” I was only half joking, because if I ever caught Chanel out in Hollywood, she was gon’ have to see me.

“Nah.” He chuckled before stealing another kiss. “You did right… with yo’ soft ass,” he teased while grabbing a handful. “Let’s go, Toni.”

CHAPTER 28

SBB

February

Flyers Go Big or Go Home for Super Bowl Sunday.

After a record-breaking season, the beloved L.A. Flyers face the ultimate test against the Sleighton Slayers in this year’s Super Bowl. Led by Chase Andrews and second-string-turned-starting-quarterback Johnathan Petes, the team has been a top pick since the start of the season. It all boils down to the game today in Miami. Do the Flyers have what it takes to go all the way?

“I'm sorry, I just stillreallydon't understand none of this shit! What does that mean?” Mona asked loudly as she pouted and crossed her arms. My eyes scanned over everyone in the private suite until they landed on her standing there with her arms crossed and a pouty expression on her face.

“It means you sit there and shut the fuck up for the next two minutes and thirty-seven seconds! Don't ask no more questions right now!” I snapped. I loved my girl, but coming to the biggest fucking game of the year andthendeciding that she wanted to learn about the game of football had to be the most annoying thing she had done all day.

“Wow!” Mona pouted, then tucked her bottom lip between herteeth. She knew I didn't mean it, but she also knew that I was stressed as fuck, for multiple reasons. I watched out of the corner of my eye as Tahmir led her to the window of our suite, put his arms around her and started explaining the rules for the hundredth time that day. That was cute, but at that moment, I didn't have the time or patience for cute. We were one play away from the biggest moment of my man's life, good or bad… and I needed it to be good. Luckily, most of Chase’s family were located on the other side with my parents, so they didn’t hear me crashing out, because I would have been mortified if they heard how I had been up there cussing like a sailor for the entire game.

“Girl… are you good?” Mani asked as she gently grabbed my arm. I must have looked like I was hanging by a lone coochie hair because she looked nervous as fuck to even approach me. I felt like the biggest hypocrite for the way I had been acting, especially since I had been on her case for the last few months about really cleaning her image up. At least I was crashing out in private with my own people.

“Yeah… Shit, no. I'm going down there!”

“Amaya, girl,” Joce fussed from where she sat with June and Laila.

“I can’t stay up here. I’m literally gonna worry myself into a fucking panic attack. I’m okay, y’all. I’m just going down to watch the end from the field.”
