“Dr. Keller mentioned that you were nearly done here.”

“I’ll file my final report tomorrow. There are one or two minor changes that still need to be made, but it’s pretty much a wrap.”

She makes a noise that tells me she’s not happy.

“We’ll miss you around here.”

The printer starts up behind her.

“I’m sure you can’t wait until I’m gone. Dr. Keller wants her office back.”

“Not true at all.” She wags a finger at me. Then she grabs the paper and hands it to me.

“There are more names on this than I expected.”

“That particular storage facility is for both the hangar and the main wing. It’s all surgeons and charge nurses, so thirteen in total.”

“Perfect. Thank you.” I head back toward the hangar, push through the side door, and step out into the loading bay. I walk to my SUV and get in.

There’s a low pressure sitting under my ribs, and it isn’t moving. I ignore it, pull out my phone, and call Reed.

It rings twice. “Ridge.” Her voice is clipped. “Tell me you have something.”

I open my mouth, but nothing comes out. I can’t do this.

Fuck!

“Have you found something?” she asks, her voice urgent.

I scrub my free hand down my face and stare out through the windshield at the white wall of the hangar.

“Ridge? Are you still there?”

“Yes,” I manage. I clear my throat. “Yes, I found something. I’m bringing it in.”

I don’t have a choice.

There’s a small pause. Then her voice softens by a fraction. “Good work.”

“On my way.”

She ends the call.

I let my head fall back against the headrest. Once they have this evidence, they will want to take Robyn in. It’ll happen quickly, unless I can talk them out of it.

I need evidence to do that. I pick up my phone and call Flint.

“Ridge. I was just about to call you,” he says. “I’m heading back to the office now. The team pulled the footage from the main lot at the park where Rachael made the drop. I’m going to sit down and go through it myself. I’m hoping to get a clean shot of our mystery female, perhaps a registration, as well. I’m hoping we’ll get her on at least three cameras between the lot and the path to the pond, as well as in the parking lot. Do you want to come watch it with me?”

“I can’t.” I push out a breath. “I need to get to the Council buildings. I have evidence to log.”

There’s a beat of silence on his end. “You found something else.”

“Yes.”

“Shit. I’m sorry, bro.”

“Yeah.” I roll my shoulders. “It’s just like Magma. A burner and some classified information. I know she’s innocent. I’m going to do what I can to talk them out of bringing her in. Get back to me as soon as you have something, Flint. Anything you can find on this female. I need it before Reed gives the order to move on Robyn.”

“I will. I’ll go through every minute of every angle. If she’s on tape, I’ll have her.”

“Good.”

“Good luck in there.”

“Thanks.” I end the call.

I glance at the hangar. Then I look away and start the engine, pulling out of the loading bay.
