So when Jonah’s mom reaches out to me, I’m surprised by how quickly we become close buddies, if only through messaging. You know what’s also surprising? Jonah’s response.
Jonah: What the hell?
Clara: Um…what?
Jonah: You’ve been messaging my mom?
Clara: Look, it’s no big deal.
Jonah: Yes. It is.
Clara: It really isn’t. We just text a couple of times a week.
Jonah: I specifically asked you not to have any contact with her.
Clara: No you didn’t.
Jonah: I did. We had a whole text conversation about it. Do you need me to send you a screen shot?
Clara: No. Because that’s not what we covered in the conversation. You said she’d found out we were married. I offered to go meet her. You shut that down. That was it. You never asked me not to have any contact with her.
Jonah: It was implied
Clara: If you cared about it, you should have stated it out loud.
Jonah: Obviously I cared, or I wouldn’t have mentioned it at all.
Clara: That was not obvious to me
Jonah: It should have been.
Clara: How? How was that supposed to be obvious?
Clara: Look. I know you don’t like me. Or whatever. But we have over a year left in this. Can we at least try to get along?
Clara: Did you block me again?
Clara: Are you kidding me?
Jonah: I don’t want you texting my mom.
Clara: What was I supposed to do? She reached out to me. Multiple times. By email and messages.
Jonah: You should have ignored her.
Clara: She called the resort.
Jonah: You couldn’t let it roll to voice mail?
Clara: No. This is a business. I don’t ever let it roll to voice mail if I can help it because when people call from the US they are usually calling because they are trying to book travel!
Clara: It is literally my job to answer the phone.
Jonah: What did you tell her?
Clara: I told her we met through friends and it was a whirlwind relationship.
Jonah: And?
