She grins the whole way.
TUESDAY, 6:00P.M., PHONE RINGS.
ROSEMARY: Hi, Sophie, is this a good time?
ME: Absolutely! How are you? Almost the big day!
ROSEMARY: I know! I can’t believe it’s this weekend!!
ME: Are you feeling OK? Anything you need me to do last minute?
ROSEMARY: I’m great, mostly down to you. Thanks so much for everything, especially sorting the portaloos. What a nightmare! Thank you.
ME: It’s what I’m here for.
ROSEMARY: I do have a favor to ask you, but I’m scared you’ll hate me!
ME: Don’t be silly, ask away!
ROSEMARY: I was thinking—you know my other two bridesmaids…
ME: Your gorgeous cousins, Ava and Jo.
ROSEMARY: Well, it’s so nice that they’re both redheads.
ME: They really are stunning.
ROSEMARY: And I was looking at pictures of us all together and I thought how amazing and neat it looks, them redheads and me dark-haired, you know?
ME: Sure.
ROSEMARY: It makes me… stand out, if you know what I mean.
ME: Naturally.
ROSEMARY: And on my wedding day, I want to stand out. Especially in pictures.
ME: Of course!
ROSEMARY: I feel nuts asking you this but… do you think you’d consider dyeing your hair for the wedding?
ME: Sorry?
ROSEMARY: It sounds crazy, I know, but I’ve been thinking about it and now I can’t get the idea out of my head! If you were all redheads, I think it would look so gorgeous! Matching! What do you think?
ME: Right! Yes! It would look lovely!
ROSEMARY: The photos will be incredible. So, are you OK to sort that?
ME: Absolutely.
ROSEMARY: Are you sure you don’t mind?
ME: Of course not! I’ll book a hairdresser now so it’s done for the weekend.
ROSEMARY: I’ll pay for it! Thank you so much, Sophie. You’re the best ever! And I just know you’re going to look stunning!
