Lucinda just stared at the old man’s photograph. Then she slowly shook her head.“I don’t know.”
After a couple of silent minutes, Lucinda bit at her lip and said, “Poppy is not involved in cartels. He just weaves hats and baskets, sells them at the marketplace. He might not be here because he wants to be.”
John paused then went back to the monitor, flipping through the live feeds. He stopped when he found the old man sitting in the corner of the room.John cleared his throat and looked over his shoulder at Leon.He didn’t say a word, instead he waited.
Leon walked over to stand behind John’s chair. He studied the live feed for a moment then shook his head and swore in Italian, “Quei fottuti stronzo.”He turned to look at Lucinda.“You are correct. He is not here because he wants to be.They are holding him prisoner.”He pointed out one odd thing on the screen.“His hands are tied with a rope.”
Lucinda gasped quietly and tears appeared in her eyes. She stared at the image of her grandfather for a long minute as if to sear his image into her brain for all time. She turned and buried her face into Storm’s chest.“They plan to execute him in front of me,” she whispered.“Poppy was kind to me when no one else was..He was the only person in my village who was ever kind to me and now they’re going to kill him to hurt me!”
Storm wrapped his arms around her and just held her while she cried. Then he turned his head to look at Tornado, Frost and Lightning. He gave them each a nod.
They gave a nod back.
John stood, went over to the door and spoke quietly to the three men.
Leon caught the exchange, but he didn’t say anything.John and these men knew their jobs and were more than proficient at war.
And this was a war...
Chapter Three
Later that night...
Tornado, Frost and Lightning left the mansion and disappeared into the darkness.
Leon stood in his den and watched this then he moved away.He turned, walked to his bar and poured himself a drink.
His men were still watching Pinto and his group.John told his men to just watch and not interfere with Storm’s men.
Leon finished his drink then walked over to his sofa and laid down.He raised one arm and flung it up over his head to stare at the ceiling. He closed his eyes but it took him a long time to close his mind down. This had been a week from hell.He hoped it was near the end.Never in his memory had his family been attacked like this.
He paused.
No that wasn’t true.
Several years ago, the enemy had gotten through the gates at the Vincinti estate.
