They all watched in silence as the fire department slowly put out the flames.
“I would feel badly, but those men would have hurt people here in my town. They also intended to do harm to the people I loved.I wish I could pray for their souls, but I cannot.”
Lucid gave him a short nod.“I understand.”
Leon and Alfredo left to have breakfast.Leon told Lucinda that he would send breakfast in for the others.
Storm said he would be back after he made some calls.
Bane and Orrin left quietly.
She stayed to watch the cleanup. After a while, Lucinda looked a bit lost as she watched them digging out the bodies from the rubble.
So she and John were the only two people in the room now.She had to see this to the end though. All the way to the VERY end. This would mean her future was secure. If they were all gone she could maybe have a life. But she felt a fear deep down for her Poppy. She never voiced it but she was very frightened for him, so she never asked about him.
The bodies were being laid out in the parking lot side by side and she could tell from the damage that no one would be able to identify them.Their bodies were too blackened by the blast.
After ten more minutes, when they were all laid out she counted them, then she counted them again, and then one more time. She slowly turned her head to John and whispered, “There are at least four missing.”
John snapped his head up to stare at her.“Are you sure?”
Lucinda nodded.“But there’s no way to tell who is missing.”
John reached for his phone and tapped the screen, “Leon, we have a problem, Lucinda says four bodies are missing.”
Chapter Five
Afew minutes later, Bane and Leon came back into the security room.
Leon stared at the monitor and counted the bodies himself. He growled and turned his head to look at Bane.“She’s right, four are missing.”
Bane shrugged.“Maybe they just haven’t been found yet.Or maybe there isn’t enough of them left to find.”
Leon growled and began to pace.“It will take too long to go through the police to identify everyone, then some of them may not have DNA on file.”
“Maybe check the hospitals to see if anyone survived the blast?”John suggested. He looked at Lucinda and shook his head.“When Pinto first woke up we saw him sniffing the air, could he have noticed the gas just before the explosion?”
