“Because if I don’t try and laugh about this, I think I might cry.”
His words sounded jagged and wounded. His eyes ached with visible pain and all I wanted to do was take that pain away, but I also knew what a potentially dangerous thought that was too.
“Ash, give us another chance, please. This love we have is rare. Not everyone gets to experience this kind of love and that’s why we have to give it another chance.”
I shook my head at him. “That’s exactly why weshouldn’tgive it another chance. I don’t want to love you, Max. And I’m going to do whatever it takesnotto love you again. Because if we didn’t work out again, I would not survive it. I barely survived it the first time, I cannot risk my heart with you again.” I turned and ran out into the night, tears falling from my eyes as I went.
CHAPTER 58
Ash
Dear Maximillian,
Sebastian has had a change of mind on the bar location. Initially he wanted a commercial bar, as you know, but now he feels that a more intimate home bar would be better. It will establish the group of friends well and more intimately before they all go on their adventure together. Can you please send through some references for a more intimate home-bar setting urgently? Sebastian would also like it to have a view.

Dear Leigh,
Please find the link to one location I think could work, and also some photos of a second location that I think is also in line with Sebastian’s vision. I actually agree with him—it would be much nicer to see the friends together in a more intimate setting. The first one is an hour out of town, great home bar, overlooking the sea. It is very modern and minimalist and has won several architectural-design awards. The second one has a more casual, homely feel, but has a great view too. They both have good, spacious home bars, but the houses have very, very different feels. Please let me know if any of these work. If not, I will have a look at what else I have and what else I could find.

Dear Maximillian,
Sebastian does not like the first location at all. He says it looks too impersonal, like a “rich people’s morgue.” He loves the second location. He says, “At least it looks like dead people don’t live there.” He would like me to go through and do a tech recce of the place and see if it works for us. Please can youarrange that asap. Preferably today or tomorrow. Sebastian would like to shoot the location at sunset, so arrange for this time, please.
