“So?”

He continued to look at her as ifshewas the crazy one. “So… I mean, this is her first tour.”

“And?” She pushed, deeply disliking the dark feeling that slid through her stomach at whatever he was insinuating.

She’d scoured over all of the details well before last week. We, The Romantics would be touring throughout February and March, ending in April. Nine weeks, which was nothing to sniff at, especially for a first tour.

They’d be performing nearly every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, traveling in their off-days, hitting most major cities in the South and Midwest. They had a couple of bigger shows in Manhattan and Chicago, as well. It would be grueling, but she truly believed Darcy was going to thrive.

“And…” Robbie echoed, before he offered her a shrug. “Look, you remember what it was like. Your first tour. It’s freaking crazy. Nothing can really prepare you for it; you know that.”

Yes, she did know it.And?

Robbie clearly saw the look on her face and continued, “Then, there are all of the people throwing themselves at you. Sneaking into your hotel room. That’s happened to both of us! People are there, trying to get a piece, now that they’ve seen you live. That adrenaline is at an all-time high.”

He chuckled, the tone sounding wildly nostalgic and so very at-odds with the feeling coursing through Juliet’s veins at his words.

She glared at him. “What, exactly, is your point?”

He held his hands up, his smile fading away. “I’m not making a point, okay? I’m just… saying. You know. That’s life on tour. It’s crazy. And waaay crazier when it’s the first time you’re getting a taste of it.”

Juliet was aware of everything Robbie was saying, aware it was absolutely the truth. But all of it left her with a very sourtaste in her mouth, as though she’d swallowed a mouth full of ashes. “Well, I won’t be in the bathroom with anyone else.”

How could she even entertain the thought, when her mind was so occupied with Darcy?

Robbie’s eyebrows lifted high on his forehead. “Wow. That’s something, huh?”

Juliet supposed it was. She’d never expressed anything like that to Robbie, before. She’d never felt so strongly about someone, before.

So strongly, that for the first time shediddislike having to be at Robbie’s event.

The Buzz

February 10

We couldn’t be more thrilled for today’s guest, given the sweeping success of We, the Romantics’ latest album and now the tour sweeping the country in the last two weeks.

Joining us today is none other than Darcy and Blythe Kincaid’s mother, Angie!

Chapter Thirty-Two

“Oh,Darcy was wild as a Junebug. Chaos, that one, I tell you–”

Darcy’s phone was literally taken from her hands by Emerson, who winced apologetically at her. Still, she locked Darcy’s phone, sharply cutting off her mother’s voice playing through their tour bus.

“Her orders.” Emerson pointed at Blythe, before passing her Darcy’s phone.

“Look, Darce, when you’re upset and obsessing, that’s usually your choice. ButIdon’t want to hear her, either. And, in fact, I refuse. Sorry.” Blythe’s words were firm and unyielding, as she put Darcy’s phone facedown on the small table she was sitting next to.

That was fair. That was fine.

Darcy didn’t have any desire to listen to their mother’s interview anymore. She’d woken up this morning, their driver already enroute to South Carolina. She’d stretched as much as she could in her bed on the bus. And she’d checked her phone, wanting to see if she’d heard from Juliet and check reviews and comments on their show the previous night. In that order.

In the last week, it had become her new morning routine.

But this morning, everything popping up in her notifications had been about her mother. Angie Kincaid’s name was splashed around after she’d given a gossip site an “exclusive” interview, all about Darcy and Blythe. Hell, she’d also included as many stories as she could likely remember about Emerson, too.

It had been almost a decade since she’d heard her mother’s voice, and hearing hernow, like this, was like nails on a chalkboard.
