She knew that she would, in fact, have a message from Darcy some time in the morning giving her the number of hours she’d slept – because Darcy said she’d be texting her, which meant she would be.

It was a kind of reliability that she’d really come to appreciate.

After Darcy left, Juliet stayed in her bed. Being mildly annoyed by her early flight, because she had come to like when Darcy promptly fell asleep in her bed after they had sex. She always had morning sex to look forward to.

Thief – 11:39P.M.

Given that you were so paranoid about my safety the first night I came to your house, I figured I’d let you know that I made it back to the hotel all in one piece

Juliet – 11:39P.M.

I’m paranoid because I was mildly concerned about you walking around by yourself in the dark?

Thief – 11:40P.M.

… you’re just confirming what I said

Juliet – 11:40P.M.

Whatever. Great, glad you didn’t get mugged or kidnapped

Thief – 11:40P.M.

Thank you

Why are you still awake? You have a migraine. Put your phone down at the very least????

Juliet – 11:41P.M.

What in the world do you think gives you the right to tell me what to do?

Thief – 11:41P.M.

Goodnight, J.J.

Juliet – 11:41P.M.

Goodnight, Thief

And don’t think I didn’t notice you taking one of my sweatshirts when you left

THIEF

Thief – 11:42P.M.

I never leave your place this late at night. It’s cold out!

Juliet shook her head, her lips curling into a smile even as she huffed out an exasperated breath. Absolute thief.

Chapter Twenty-One

Darcy wasunsurprised to find when she got back to her hotel that she wasn’t quite as exhausted as she was after they had sex when she was spending the night in Juliet’s bed.

She didn’t feel the same way she felt on her usual nights, alone, either. Shewastired, and she had a suspicion she’d be able to sleep well tonight. Better than usual in hotels, anyway.

But her brain had buzzed back to life on her ride to the hotel from Juliet’s. She’d called the car from down the street from Juliet’s house, just to be safe; she thought Juliet would appreciate that.

However, Juliet hadn’t suggested it to her. Normally, she would have. If Juliet was firing on all cylinders, she would be very vigilant about keeping up appearances.
