I knew all the hair stylist that worked for my mom, so I spoke to them as well. Since my mom’s station was in the back, she was the last one to see me when I walked in. She was too busy working on her client, running her mouth, deeply engrossed in whatever they were talking about. She didn’t turn around to see me until I was close enough, and when she did, she screeched.

“Awwww, Bean. Then you came with gifts. Let me feel your head. Are you okay?” she cracked, trying to be funny, as she reached over, so that she could sit the curling iron down.

Once her hands were free, she playfully walked over to me, and she placed the palm of her hand on my forehead, as if she was checking to see if I had a fever or anything.

“Stop carrying on like that. Acting like I never get you anything. I just came back from Turks with a bunch of gifts for you. Here. I remembered it was your anniversary of having this shop. Just wanted to drop by with a little something for you,” I said, reaching my hands out, so that I could hand her over the flowers, and the gifts.

No matter how many times anyone showed up with flowers for my mom, she was always going to treat it like it was her first time receiving flowers in her life. My dad made her this way. Just from stories that I’ve heard over the years from her, I knew that my dad would always shower her with flowers. Even though Major wasn’t my favorite person in the world, I also knew thathe would shower my mom with flowers too. Sometimes, when I walk into her house, I wouldn’t know if I was at her house or the damn nursery.

“Thank you, my baby. How did you remember that? I didn’t mention anything about it to you,” she said, looking down at the flowers in her hand, truly in love with them.

“I don’t know. I guess I just remembered. Happy anniversary ma. I’ll take it to the back, and just wait for you in your office,” I let her know.

She smelled the roses, walked over to me, so that she could kiss me multiple times on my cheeks, thanked me for the items, and then she handed them over to me.

I took the items to the back, where her office was. I knew the code to her door, so I was able to key it in, and let myself inside. I walked with the items over to her desk, where I sat them down. She had a restroom in here, so I quickly went in there, relived myself of my bladder that I had been holding, wiped, and then went over to the sink, so that I could wash my hands.

I finished up and then went back out into her office. I chose to sit over in the sitting area that she had. I used this time to pull my phone out, so that I could text Demi and find out where she was. She wrote back quickly, telling me that she was home with Daylani. I let her know that I was here at my mom’s shop, and after I finished up, I was going to Uber to her house. I haven’t been over there to see her, and Daylani in a while. I’ve been busy, on the move, so it wasn’t easy for me to always be able to stop what I was doing, so that I could pull up on her.

It didn’t take my mom too long to come to the back. Probably another 30 minutes or so, and she made her way to the office. The first thing that she did once she was inside the office was head to the restroom. I could hear her at the sink, washing her hands.

Once she finished, she came out, and was squealing, ready to go inside the bags, and see what I’d gotten her. Everything that was inside those gift bags were things that I knew she was going to love. My mom was a perfume fanatic, loving to smell good, and I knew that Baccarat Rouge 540 has been a smell that she’s been obsessed with lately. Not only did I get the perfume for her, but I got a couple of candles for her from that same brand, some hand soap, and even the lotion. All of that was a little over one stack.

She loved her jewelry too, something else that my dad would spoil her with. Bracelets is what my mom was really into, so I purchased her a couple of diamond tennis bracelets, in which she drooled over, falling in love with them. She was so thirsty over the bracelets, that she came over to me, so that I could place them on her wrist. It fit her perfectly.

When it came to purses, that was a department that I was still learning about, being as though at 21 years old, I was just coming around to learning purses, so I wasn’t sure which one to get her. Ari helped me out when it came to this. She told me that the Louis Vuitton vanity bags were popular right now. The first was the original Monogram Empreinte, and the other one was the Nano Nice. Ari told me that my mom was going to love them, and she did because she held both in her hands, ready to pull her phone out, so that she could snap pictures of them.

“I love this, Bean. I love it even more because it came from you,” she told me, coming over, hugging me, and kissing me all over my face again.

Any other time, I probably would have been telling her that she was doing too much, but I loved seeing her happy like this. Like a proud daughter, I pulled my phone out, and I had her stand in front of her desk, so that I could snap a couple of pictures of her. I did her ass how she would do me, making her hit different poses for the pictures.

Also, when we finished up taking pictures in her office, I had her go outside with the flowers because I wanted to snap some pictures of her in front of her salon building. It was only right that I got a picture in front of the building that she’s been working out of for the past 23 years.

This salon didn’t look anything like how it used to. When my dad purchased this building for her, the building was old. So much work has gone into this building over the years.

As I was snapping the pictures, the sound of a loud engine pulling into the plaza caught my attention. Both my mom and I turned, so that we could see who it was. It was Major’s Rolls Royce pulling in. Major had a few cars, and each of his cars had something unique about it that stood out. This Rolls Royce that he was pushing right now was custom for his business. It was wrapped with his business logo, and all of the company’s information.

I watched him as he pulled the car into an empty spot, and it didn’t take him long to get out.

When he stepped out, he was holding a bouquet of roses that were so big that it covered his entire face. I guess just like me, he remembered that today was my mom’s anniversary as well. I knew that it meant a lot to my mom that the two of us got along. She told me all the time that she didn’t expect me to carry on as if Major was my daddy, but she did want us to be cordial.

Any other time, if he had walked over, I would have probably gone back into the salon. I wanted to do the mature thing today, so I stayed out here, and I watched as he went over to my mom with the flowers, and she gushed over them. I had to accept the fact that she loved him. It was in the way she looked at him. All those recordings that I’ve watched over the years, seeing her and my dad together, seeing the way that she would look at Grim, that’s the same manner in which she looked at Major, and that’s how I knew that her love was strong for him.

“I’m just getting surprise after surprise today. You remembered too?” she asked, having to use all the muscles in her arms to not only hold the flowers that I’d gotten her, but to also hold the ones that Major had placed in her hands too. He kissed her on top of her head. It was the same forehead kiss that Dolo would do with me.

“I have it on my calendar. How could I forget? Riot, what’s good?” Major asked, taking his eyes off my mom for a second, just so that he could turn, and look over at me.

He was dressed in his company’s black polo shirt, with black jeans, and a fresh pair of Jordan 12’s on his feet. Major was handsome as hell. I’ll give him that. He always dressed nice, always smelled good, and the nigga was successful. I could see why my mom would be head over heels for him the way that she was.

“Hey,” I said, keeping it short with him like I did pretty much any other time that he would come around.

“Happy anniversary to you, baby. I have some more shit for you in the car, but I’ll give it to you in a second. Did you eat yet? Let me and Riot go next door, and get you something to eat,” he said, including me in his little plans.

Again, today was all about my mom, and I didn’t want to fuck up her day, so if going next door with him to get lunch for her would make her happy, then I was down for it.

My mom looked down at me. You could tell that she liked Major’s plan, but she didn’t know how I was going to feel about it. I didn’t want her to feel like she had to choose, so nervously, and against my will, I scratched at my head, sighed, and prepared to say what I had to say.

“Go ahead, ma. We’ll go next door to get you something to eat,” my response was mature, and it made her smile because I could tell that for us to get along was all she ever wanted.
