“Do you have her phone number?” She nods. “Then text her. Don’t wait. Tell her how you feel.”

She rifles through her purse. “Isn’t this rude? We’re on a date, and I’m texting someone else.”

“You planning to let her kiss you?”

“She’s not really my type,”she says with a snort.

“Then it’s fine.” I give her a bit of privacy, turning my gaze out the front of the car. I catch Luis’s

amused eyes in the rearview. I glare at him halfheartedly, then stare out at the road.

“There. Done.” She tucks the phone back into her brown leather purse — even the fucking purse

is ugly — and turns to me, tucking her hair behind her ears. “It’s been so busy. Even though we work

together, I feel like I haven’t seen you.”

“It’s always like that ramping up to a show. It’s a great place for us to meet with suppliers and

new customers, so we want to make the best impression possible.”

She bites her lips as she studies me. “The staff mentioned that you’re usually part of the group that

goes. They all seemed shocked that you were staying back this time.”

Yeah, I do go. Every time. Except now I’m really fixated on this baffling woman in front of me,

and I don’t want to leave her. “I think the team can handle it. And I just…wanted a break.” My

brothers may have a point. I’ve been so busy running myself ragged trying to be the face of the

company that I’ve sucked a lot of the fun out of it. I just hope I don’t live to regret it.

“I…I could try the plane again. If you need me to go, I mean.”

“Nah, if you go, I go. Then we’d take the jet.” I wink at her. No fucking way would I let her out of

my sight. She’s this odd mix of capable and innocent, and no way do I want her wandering around in a

foreign country unprotected. “We’re just pushing the chicks out of the nest. I’m sure they’ll be ok.”

She smiles and takes my hand and everything in me settles at the same time the hair on my body

stands on end. I want her hands all over me. “You gave me some of your past. Thank you for that. But

I’m not clear on how that ties into you having a driver?”

I frown down at our hands. “I can drive. I own this SUV and another car, but if I’m going to have

anyone else in the car, I won’t drive.”

“Why?”

I shrug, “The idea of getting into an accident…of hurting someone is…” paralyzing, terrifying, the

stuff of nightmares, “unpleasant. I just…don’t want to. Jonas handled it differently. He’s very focused

on vehicle safety. He researches all our cars before we buy them, making sure the safety standards are
