Some of Jonas’s tension dissolves and his shoulders square. “Okay. If we’re doing this, we’re
going to do it right. We’ll work in grids.”
Maya pulls me aside as Jonas starts organizing the search party. “I just talked to her today. She
was vague about her Christmas plans, but I didn’t think anything of it. She’s been off lately, but I
thought it had to do with the breakup.”
“I didn’t see it. But you can be damn sure, we won’t leave a single stone unturned. We’ll find her.
Guaranteed.”
“I hope we do, for Jonas’s sake.”
I see it in her eyes. Her worry that what we find might be bad. I have the same fear, but right now,
I have to hope that everything will be okay.
Because if anything happens to her, I know, in the deepest part of my soul, I’ll lose my brother.
