office right next door. “I’m there. We’re office neighbors, but I meant at home. My sister and I live

across the hall from you. You’re in Evie’s old place, right? I meant to say hello last night, but my

boyfriend distracted me.”

Her hazy eyes and pink cheeks tell me exactly how he distracted her. She has someone. Of course,

she does. She’s exotic and stunning. Her boyfriend probably wears expensive suits and flies her

around the world.

“Does everybody who works here live there?” It’s possible, right? It’s a big building.

“Nah, just the lucky ones.” Her smile drops, and her eyes get serious. “You’re new, but I think

you’ll see that Brash operates a little differently. The brothers are great bosses, but there aren’t a ton

of boundaries.”

My whole life has been one big boundary. More than once, I’ve been told I have a metaphorical

fuck offsign over my head. I don’t mean to be that way, but if I’m honest with myself, it’s easier to

I lean forward in my chair. “A group home? How on earth did they end up here?” I mean, to go

from foster care to billionaires is a major accomplishment.

Her smile this time isn’t sultry. It isn’t full of laughter. It’s soft and gentle, and it makes everything

about her even more alluring. If I liked women, I’d be in love.

Who am I kidding? I already have a bit of a crush.

“They decided to be a family. They took care of each other. And they worked like mad.” She taps

her red fingernails on the doorframe. “Dinner at six. I’ll make spaghetti.” Then turns and saunters

down the hallway. I’m still watching when a large man in a hoodie tugs her, laughing, into an office

and slams the door. Either that’s the boyfriend, or there’s a hell of a lot more going on here than I ever

imagined. What would that be like? Working with your boyfriend?

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to go on a date.

Shaking off a little bit of jealousy, I scowl up at the lights again, then rifle through my bag, pulling
