“The Mage Council needs to lock him up,” Demelza complained loudly. “It’s obvious he’s mentally unwell.” A sharp jolt of anxiety twisted the tether between me and my precious mate. Her pink cheeks faded to white as the sour taste of her fear made my gut clench.
Was Demelza the reason Rasmus had picked up on her distress? I’d been so busy thinking about all the naughty things I wanted to do to my pet that I’d not paid enough attention to her emotions through the bond.
I spun on my toes to eyeball the bitch witch, ignoring Dunton’s increasingly loud rant about unacceptable behavior.
“You want to lock me up, Demented?” A few shifters laughed at my new name for the witch, but from her furious glare, she didn’t appreciate my sense of humor.
“You’re just like your psycho father!” A fireball formed in her hand before Dunton dropped water on her head.
“Miss Thorn. I do not need any input from you.” I smirked as the witch silently seethed in her seat. “And as for you, Mr. Vanyx, kindly get out of my classroom before I report you to the headmaster.”
Unable to contain my amusement at such a hollow threat, I guffawed loudly.
“No, I think I’ll stay, actually. According to rule seventy-two, paragraph fifteen of the Student Handbook, I’m allowed to be with my soul-bonded mate in lessons, even if she’s in a different year group, and there’s fuck all you can do to stop it.”
A faint hum of approval from outside the classroom rippled across our mate bond before the vampire vanished.
“But if my mate is bored, which would be understandable, since listening to you is like watching a wolf shifter fuck a hole in a tree, then I’m happy to remove her from the room. I’m in favor of morehands-onlessons, so a practical tutorial in blood play will be way more enjoyable than reading some dry-as-fuck textbook.”
“Blood play?” Raven chewed her bottom lip and the delicious aroma of her arousal hit me.
“Yes, my pet.” I licked my lips at the thought of her coming around my cock as Count Jugular sucked on her juicy tit.
Dunton stuttered, unable to come up with a suitable riposte, while Demelza huddled with her coven, bad-mouthing me and mine.
The nasty witch was now at the top of my shit list. I’d had enough of her swanning around campus, pretending she was the Queen Bee.
Her father might be one of Tiberius Vane’s cronies, but if she thought she was untouchable, she was very much mistaken.
It would be truly tragic if the stupid slut died in a random demon attack off-campus. I’d mourn her passing for at least one second. Which would be one second too long, frankly.
“Time to go, pet.” I pulled my mate out of her chair and blinked her away from the classroom. If Dunton had anything to say about it, or downgraded her next assignment as a punishment, the bastard would die.

Astorm raged outside for the third time this week. Was Alaric throwing a tantrum again? Or had a naturally occurring storm hit campus for once?
I’d not seen the storm mage since I scorched his pants in the cafeteria, but the tether in my chest nagged every so often, reminding me he was still around.
Like I could forget him.
If only.
Kenji snorted as he snoozed on a cushion by the window. The vampire dorm was way less comfortable than Maverick’s old cabin, but I’d done my best to make it feel homey.
Maverick had given me the log-in for his Magizon account, and I’d spent a happy afternoon buying cushions, throws, scented candles, andmore.
The scented candles helped mask the musty smell of many years’ worth of damp. They weren’t as good as the ones Tally used to make but were better than nothing.
Maybe I could steal some of her candles when I went back to the farm. I debated calling Adam to ask as I made notes for my assignment. After a lot of procrastinating, I’d finally used Maverick’s phone to call him. He’d listened to my very brief account of our trip to the mer kingdom and then made me promise to visit as soon as lockdown lifted.
Maverick’s uncle and his construction crew had spent the last two days fixing the roof on the dorm—the Shifter Council had given them permission to travel despite the current restrictions preventing shifters from leaving their home territories.
The crew were all bear shifters like my mate. Big, brawny males with muscles for days.
We’d all noticed an increase in females walking past the dorm building during the daylight hours. The female wolves were shameless. Despite the cold weather, they routinely showed up in tiny shorts and vest tops to ogle the bears as they erected scaffolding and carried lumber up ladders.
