“And which one are you?”

“Doesn’t matter. Excuse me.”

“Okay, but save a dance for me.”

“Sure.” He had no intention of doing that. Maddie was a nice girl, but it was obvious to just about everyone that she had a thing for Garrett. And Garrett would probably have a serious thing for Maddie if he could ever be serious about anyone ever again.

That last thought only made him worry more as he headed toward the bar where his brother sat, flirting with Kelsey. He arrived just in time to see Garrett and Kelsey both sling back a shot.

“Hey,” he hollered, louder than he probably needed to. “What’s going on?”

Kelsey’s eyes flickered back and forth between the twins, her face falling.

“Wait. Garrett, you didn’t tell me you two dressed in the same costume.”

Garrett turned and scrutinized Davis and Davis stared right back at him.

“That’s because I didn’t know. Bro, what’s up? Why did you come dressed as Lloyd? You know Jim Carrey is my man. Plus, I could never be a Harry. Lloyd is the ladies man.”

Davis refrained from releasing a snappy comeback. “You knew this was the costume I had.”

“How would I know that?” But Garrett didn’t wait for Davis to respond before continuing. “Just go home quick and change. I would, but I’ve already been drinking. Kelsey and I are already two shots in.”

“Really? You never drink while you’re working.”

Kelsey hunched a shoulder. “Why should everyone else get to have fun at my bar? Besides it’s not going to be my bar for much longer so what do I care?”

“You don’t know that. Aren’t you still trying to find a partner?”

Kelsey glanced away, as if she was unable to look at him. “I met with a prospective investor from Denver who offered to buy O’Henry’s, without the option as a partner. It’s no use, Davis. I’ve run out of time. It’s over.” Her words came out sounding broken, the defeat in her posture felt in his chest.

He had a way to help her, even if she probably didn’t want it. Maybe she’d feel as if she didn’t have a choice. He needed to get her alone and discuss it, tonight. No more delaying it.

“It’s not over. Not yet.”

“Who are we kidding?”

“Can we talk for a minute?” He pleaded with his eyes.

She peered up at him, biting her lower lip.

“Bro,” Garrett said, back handing Davis in the chest. “You’re bringing her down. She wants to have fun.”

“It’s fine,” she said, waving Garrett off.

But he was right. This was a party. And she deserved a night of fun.

“I’m fun,” Davis remarked.

Garrett busted up laughing. “No, no, sorry. You’re right. You’re fun. We know that. But right now, you’re sorta killing the vibe.”

Kelsey snorted, picking up the tequila bottle and filling two shot glasses. “He’s not wrong.”

Garrett was a bad influence on her, and he didn’t want him rubbing off on her. The way Garrett had been handling Emma’s death was unhealthy and he didn’t want that kind of coping for her. Davis’s best bet to keep an eye on her, would be to join in.

“Fill one for me too, please.”

She tilted her head, mischievous in her eyes. With raised brows, she said, “You sure?”
