Kelsey grinned and filled a fourth shot glass. But before they could drink, Maddie and Norah showed up.
“Count us in too,” Maddie said.
Before long, it felt like half the bar crowded together and all took a shot at once.
Maddie shouted, “Woo-hoo! Let’s all make some bad decisions tonight!”
And the crowd erupted in a cheer so loud, it vibrated in Davis’s chest. It was difficult to not have fun. As much as Davis hated to admit it. But it had been a long time since he felt included in something and not out of default because he was Garrett’s twin.
He glanced over at Kelsey and found her staring at him as she wiped the back of her hand against her lips. His heartbeat pounded in his ears, and he swallowed.
One way or another, tonight he was going to reveal his true feelings for her and act on them.
CHAPTERNINETEEN
KELSEY
Kelsey sucked on a lime wedge, the citrus awakening her taste buds. She was four shots in, and her eyes burned as she stared at the men opposite her. Two men who were twins and dressed in the same costume.
At first, when Davis had walked into the bar, she’d thought her vision had gone blurry from the alcohol, making her see double. But she’d only had two shots at that point. Now that she was four shots in, she was grateful the men had finally separated. Not that she’d ever confused the two. One was her best guy friend and the other was the biggest man whore in Pineridge.
Julian shuffled toward her. “All right, Kels, you’re free.”
“Thanks. I owe you.”
“No, I owe you. Because of you, I just got out of puke duty. My youngest stuffed herself full of Halloween candy.”
“Eww, yeah, you’re right. You’re welcome.” She rounded the bar and met Izzy on the other side.
“I’m glad you get to have some fun tonight.”
“Well, at this point, the kids are already in bed, so I might as well,” Kelsey said.
“So are we dancing or doing karaoke?” Izzy asked.
Kelsey thought about it, her eyes zoning in on Davis where he sat at a table nursing a beer. When he confessed that he loved her earlier, the declaration sounded different than any other time before. It felt different too.
Things between them for the last few weeks had been building and now, maybe they were ready to find out what this was. Or better yet—act on it.
Tonight could be the night.
“If I Can’t Have You” by Shawn Mendes played and the music vibrated through her veins, buzzing across her skin.
“Dance,” she finally answered Izzy as she and ambled toward Davis. When she reached him, she said, “Hey, you wanna dance?” His eyes drifted lazily up to meet hers. When they locked, there was a low dip in her belly.
He glanced over his shoulder before looking back at her, fire in his gaze. “Kels,” he groaned and the rumble rattled something loose inside her. “You know I don’t dance.”
“Humor me,” she said, smiling seductively and presenting a hand to him. “C’mon, you don’t even have to do anything.”
He quirked an intrigued brow at her, and her cheeks burned. He set his hand in hers and she instantly yanked him toward the bar.
“Uh, the dance floor is that way,” he protested.
A laugh bubbled out of her. She was a bit more than buzzed than she’d first thought. But it was okay because this was a safe space and she felt light and free. When they reached the bar, she dropped his hand and hoisted herself up on top of it.
Davis cupped his hands around his mouth, “What are you doing?” he yelled.
She hooked a finger at him.
