He huffed against my skin, a sound that might have been amusement. His knot was still firmly lodged inside me, though it seemed to have decreased slightly in size. The fullness was strange but not uncomfortable. If anything, I felt more complete than I ever had before.

As the first hints of dawn began to lighten the sky outside, I felt Cal stiffen behind me. A shudder ran through his massive form, and he made a pained sound that had me twisting to look at him.

"Cal? What's wrong?"

His yellow eyes met mine, and I saw something like regret in them before another violent shudder wracked his body. The chains rattled more loudly as his limbs began to tremble. I watched in fascination and horror as his features started to shift, the fur receding into his skin, his snout shortening back into a human face.

The transformation was both beautiful and terrible to witness. Bones cracked and realigned, fur disappeared, and claws retracted into normal fingers. Through it all, Cal remained silent except for his harsh breathing, his jaw clenched against what must have been excruciating pain.

And through it all, we remained connected. His cock, still inside me, was changing too, becoming more human though still impressively large. The knot slowly dissolved until finally, with a wet sound, we separated.

I turned fully to face him as the last traces of wolf disappeared, leaving only the man I'd met the night before. Cal lay there, naked and panting, sweat glistening on his skin. The chains that had restrained his wolf form hung loose around his human wrists, the metal links scraping against the wooden floor as he moved.

"Cal?" I whispered, reaching out to touch his face.

His eyes, human now and hazel with flecks of gold, met mine with a mixture of shame and uncertainty. "I'm sorry," he said, his voice rough from disuse. "I never wanted you to find out like this. Or for the wolf to… totakeyou like that. I’m sorry…”

My fingers connected with his jaw and he looked up, those eyes so full of regret. “Don’t apologize,” I said, surprising myself with how much I meant it. “I’m okay with it. Hell, Ienjoyedit.”

“You won’t be okay with it once I explain what it means…”

"What it means?" I echoed, my heart suddenly racing again for entirely different reasons. "What are you talking about?" I took a breath. “Am… Am I going to become a werewolf now?”

Cal sat up, wincing as the chains clinked around his wrists. He reached for a key on the nightstand and unlocked them, revealing raw red marks beneath. I watched as he rubbed at the abrasions, his eyes avoiding mine.

"No. You won’t become a werewolf.” There was an exhaustion seeping through his voice. “We need to talk though," he said finally, his voice low and serious. "About what just happened between us."

Something in his tone made my stomach clench. "Okay, but can you put on some pants first? It's hard to have a serious conversation when you're..." I gestured vaguely at his impressive physique.

A ghost of a smile touched his lips before disappearing. He stood and moved to a dresser, pulling out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. He tossed a second set to me. "These will be big on you, but..."

"Thanks." I pulled on the clothes, trying not to think about how surreal this all was. Just hours ago, I'd been complaining about my shitty job, and now I was putting on clothes loaned to me by a werewolf I'd just had sex with instead of going to work. Life was fucking weird.

Cal sat on the edge of the bed, running a hand through his disheveled hair. In the early morning light, he looked exhausted, the shadows under his eyes more pronounced.

"What happened between us," he began, choosing his words carefully, "wasn't just sex."

I snorted. "Yeah, I gathered that from the whole werewolf thing and the knot and?—"

"Evan." The way he said my name stopped me cold. "When werewolves... When we find someone like you, it's different. It's permanent."

My mouth went dry. "What do you mean, 'permanent'?"

Cal took a deep breath. "In my world, we have something called fated mates. It's rare to find one, especially outside our own kind. But when we do, the bond is... it's for life."

I stared at him, waiting for the punchline. When none came, I laughed nervously. "You're not seriously telling me we're werewolf married now?"

His expression remained deadly serious. "That's exactly what I'm telling you."

"That's insane," I said, standing up from the bed. "We just met yesterday. You can't just—we can't be—this iscrazy."

"I know how it sounds," Cal said, his voice maddeningly calm. "But I didn't just meet you yesterday."

I froze. "What?"

"I've known about you for months," he admitted, and something in his tone made my skin prickle with unease. "I first saw you at that coffee shop you work at. I smelled you, actually. Your scent... it called to me in a way I can't explain."

I took a step back. "So you've been stalking me?" My voice rose higher than I intended. "For months?"
