Taken aback by his harshness as he never spoke to me in such a way before, I open my mouth, only to close it when Levi speaks up instead. “Wyatt.” His name is laced with a warningso strong it pollutes the air, I can almost touch it. “Lavender, go meet your brothers. I need to speak with Wyatt.”

I feel as if I’ve entered a new dimension where everything is uncertain, on the verge of crazy.

And while I vowed to myself I’d never listen to orders again, I shake my head at them and do as he says because some battles should be left unfought.

Wyatt might be right, and what he does is not my business. Aurelia, though, has no one in this life, sans her sick mother. I’ll be damned if I allow Wyatt to destroy her life due to some sense of revenge. Ian should have known better in the first place.

I’ll have to talk to Scarlett about it and take her advice on how I can protect the girl from his wrath. My billions have to give me some advantages. Maybe she would consider transferring universities if I offered to pay for her education like a scholarship of some sort.

Either way, I need to first get my hands on the money before deciding what to do with it.

This thought sours my mood because I’m about to face my brothers.

Ah.

Showtime.

Levi

The minute Lavender steps into the living room, Wyatt’s eyes flash in anger as he hooks his thumbs in his pockets and aims his stare at me. “I realize you must have lost your head with this obsession of yours, but may I remind you that I do not take orders from anyone.”

“It wasn’t an order. It was a promise.” He lifts his brow, and the familiar need to protect what’s mine rises to the surface.“Save your viciousness for someone else because if you ever speak this way to Lavender again, I’m going to?—”

“What?”

“Cut your tongue out and gift it to her.”

“Is that so?”

“You’re welcome to test me if you want.”

The tension escalates between us, and one might think a fight is brewing, but it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Violence is the language we understand best.

“The only reason I’m letting this slide is because I respect it. She’s family, and I wouldn’t want her to end up with someone who can’t protect her.” We stare at one another. “My patience and respect aren’t endless, though. Tell her to stay away from Aurelia. This issue doesn’t concern her.”

Pushing from the wall, I shrug. “If she wants to be friends with the poor thing, I can’t stop her.”

Aurelia, an unfortunate creature who caught Ian’s attention and in this turned her whole boring existence upside down.

I’m neutral when it comes to Aurelia, she ought to learn how to stand up for herself.

Otherwise, she’d never survive in a world where she crossed Wyatt. And the sooner she accepts that fact, the sooner she’ll build an armor to shield herself from him.

“As long as she won’t interfere with my plans, I don’t give a fuck who she’s friends with.” He takes out his phone, scrolls through it, and whistles. “Kane invited her to the auction tonight. Ah, this should be interesting.” He laughs, the fucker. “This must be killing you.” He cocks his head to the side. “Is that why you cornered her in your parents’ house?” He rubs his chin and snaps his fingers at me. “It explains her beautiful outfit today.”

It takes all my self-control not to snap his neck for admiring my woman for a fraction of a second, although I can’t argue with him.

She is a vision tonight with her hair cascading down her bare shoulders in heavy locks, and the need to lace my fingers through them, dragging her closer to me so I can finally feast on her mouth, rides me hard.

Patience, patience, patience.

She chose to wear a long, satin emerald dress that hugs her body so tight it showcases every delicate curve, and I wish to bite on them and leave my marks on her flawless skin, so whenever she sees them she remembers she belongs to me.

And the long slit on her right leg trailing up her thigh drives me insane with each step she takes, for it gives a peek of her legs that should be wrapped around me.

I’m going to beat the shit out of Kane because all men will be looking at her tonight, and that’s unacceptable.
