“Yes,” I say in a whisper.
He tangles his hands through my locks, making me gasp.
Then he leans in.
He’s goingto kiss me. Good God, he’s going tokiss me.
I inhale, and the air I suck in is thick with his masculine scent and his cologne. There’s a distinctive undernote of leather.
Very sexy.
The second his lips touch mine, my mind shuts down. He lets out a gruff rumble that I first feel vibrate under my hands and then between my legs.
This is as real as it gets and it’s freaking amazing.
Soon, our embrace turns hungry. Rhett kisses me hard, plunging his tongue between my lips as he ravishes my mouth. His hands are rough. I assume it’s from hours of working as a ranch hand or holding onto a horse’s harness. The harshness of them tickles against my sensitive skin and sends a ricochet of pleasure up my spine and across the back of my neck.
The man leaves mebreathless.
Sweet baby Jesus, I’m going to melt in his arms.
When I break away, we’re both breathing hard and heavy.
I feel almost selfish, holding on to him tighter, because no man has ever kissed me like that. Even with my limited experience, it would be a miracle of God if I were to find someone who could kiss with such unrestrained passion.
Even though I’m still sitting down, I place my hand against his chest for fear of collapsing to my knees. That kiss was as potent as any hallucinatory drugs.
“You’re like a sweet temptation with colorful and sugary sprinkles on top,” he says. “How can a country boy stop at one bite? I know I can’t.”
Let it be known, there’s a serious shortage of country boys in the Big Apple. Every girl deserves to be swooned by a rugged and manly hunk.
“You’re crazy.” That’s the best I can come up with.
“I guess you’re right. One more minute without kissing you, and I would’ve lost my mind.”
What a guy.
I smile wide. “Smooth.”
He rewards me with a devilish wink.
“Speaking of which, can I ask you a question?”
“Absolutely.”
At this point, there isn’t much I’d refuse him.
“What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done, Carina?”
That’s easy.“Move to Summerville. I never imagined leaving New York, and moving out here was never on my list. I was planning on going back home after a few years in LA. That said, after winning the Food Network competition, I knew I had to jump at the opportunity… even if Riley was the only person I know out here. My family thought I’d lost it, but I was following my dreams. What about you?”
“I haven’t done it yet.”
I blink my confusion. “I don’t follow.”
“Can I confess something?”
“Sure.”
