“We can go back to my place.”

What are you doing,Carina?

I ignore the voice of reason. Rhett has set my body ablaze and only he can quench my thirst.

He pulls away from me and studies me for a few beats, taking a moment to decide. It’s like he’s allowing me time to make sure I made the right decision.

No way am I backing down.

His lips pull up in a languorous smile as sweet as honey. “Well, all right, then. Lead the way, lil’ darlin’.” He winks.

Chapter 11

Rhett

With my fingers laced with hers, Carina leads me down the pathway to her place. We walk in silence. From time to time we look at each other and exchange goofy smiles. She’s so easygoing.

When we get to her house, she leans against the doorframe as I step in closer.

“This is me,” she says, pointing her thumb over her head.

“Yeah, this is you… and me.” I grin. “I think we’re going to make some nice music together.”

“Do you mean a jingle or a symphony?”

“I love your sense of humor, darlin’. Do you have any neighbors?”

“No, not yet. The ranch hands live on the other side. Riley wanted me to stay on this part because I’d have my privacy. Why?”

I crowd into her space. “I want to know if anyone will hear you scream out my name when I make you come hard.”

“Oh, God, Rhett.” She closes her eyes.

I’ve never wanted a woman this much in my life.

“Can I get your key?” I extend a hand. “Time to make true on my promise.”

Without breaking our gaze, she fumbles through a small gold clutch with a tortoiseshell handle that circles her wrist. She pulls out her key and drops it in the palm of my hand. Our eyes travel down at the same time, heightening the moment.

“Fair warning. I might be more of a wrangler and less of a gentleman when we walk through those doors because going slow is more than I can offer you tonight.”

Worry flashes across her eyes. “I don’t know if I can keep up.”

“Follow my lead, and you’ll do just fine.”

“Okay.” She offers a small nod before stepping to the side.

I open the door, grab her by the waist and when we burst through the door, I kick it shut behind me with my foot and lock it. I turn around to face her, a wolfish grin stretching my lips.

“I have you all to myself.”

She steps away from me. The fact she’s doing it backward is amusing in itself.

“Where are you going?”

She doesn’t answer. Like a whirlwind, she turns on a few lights and comes to stand in front of me.

The lust I read in her eyes is intoxicating.
