Kam kept his face stoic. He didn't trust anyone from the agency. "I will get the files back, but you need to make sure this disappears from the tech's records completely."

"Who is she to you?" If Monica didn't already know the answer to that question, then she wasn't as good as he thought.

Kam leaned toward the glass as if he were watching the fish. "I just don't want to see another person betrayed by their government."

"Is that what you think happened to you?" Monica flicked her hand. "We saved you. Made you realize your full potential."

Was the agency responsible for what happened to him and his men? He had always assumed that they saw an opportunity and took it. This was a web he would need to untangle later.

"Do we have a deal?" Kam asked as he moved past her.

"You have one week to get me the files, then she gets tried as a terrorist, and you go to a place that no one comes back from. And, King," Monica dropped her voice to a lethal whisper. "You go rogue again, I'll personally make sure you get burned."

Kam bit down on his back molars. "If you want the files back, you need to tell me who tipped you off."

"An email between Tina and another staff member was flagged, and when we dug into her background, Tina Miller didn't exist before 5 years ago."

Monica faced him. "Get the files and bring down Lysander. Stick to the mission."

Kam narrowed his eyes. "Once I do this, I'm done. No more games. No more missions."

Monica's jaw twitched. "I'll see what the director has to say, but I make no promises." With that, she walked away.

Kam would be done. One way or another, he'd get his life back. Or he'd create a new one, hopefully with Taylor by his side.

CHAPTER 3

Taylor paced the living room for what was probably the one hundredth time. There had to be something that she could do. She was going to go crazy if she didn't get out of this. She ran through one more time what she knew about the case.

Someone with computer skills hacked into the Senator's computer and stole classified plans. Senator Schulz had suspected someone on his staff to be a traitor, but he wasn't sure who. That was her job. To infiltrate the staff, earn trust, and find the traitor. A job that she failed. James on the PR team gave her the creeps, but she didn't think he had the computer skills to pull this off.

She was scrolling through her notes when Davin appeared in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room. "What are you doing?"

"I'm helping. I need to do something." Taylor huffed and sank back into the couch.

"Hollands took you off of this case, and I agree with him. Let us handle this."

"Easy for you to say. I'm looking at felony charges."

Davin walked into the room and sat on the opposite side of the couch. "I know this is hard, but you can trust us. We won't let you go down for this."

Taylor blew out a short breath. She trusted both Davin and Paul. They were both like older brothers. Protective. Loyal.

"I know." She leaned back into the couch. "It doesn't make it any easier to sit here and do nothing."

"What about McNite?"

Taylor sat up. "You think he has something to do with this?"

Davin shook his head. "I don't think he did it. The guy was downstairs with you right before the lights went out. There is no way he could have gotten to the tenth floor. And he doesn't match the build of the unknown."

"Wait. You have footage of the guy who broke into the Senator's room?"

Davin winced. "Off the case, remember?"

Taylor rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Of course."

"Just because he didn't do it doesn't mean he doesn't know more about it than we do. He's not technically connected to the case. Yet. And given your suspicions about him, I thought your skills could be put to good use looking into him."
