‘What?!’

‘Please. Just pretend you need to buy something.’ Tammy noticed her voice was trembling.

‘Why don’tyougo back in?’

‘Because I just don’t want to see him right now, that’s why.’

‘Okay. I’ll go. I’ll be as quick as I can.’

‘Thanks Mina.’

Mina climbed out and Tammy stayed low, keeping hidden. She listened out for the shop door opening, but all she could hear were the farm’s cows mooing in a nearby field.

A few minutes later, Tammy heard the shop door open and close. She waited with bated breath and nearly jumped out of her skin when Mina opened the driver-side door and got in.

‘He’s talking to Pamela about a meeting he has with Pharis.’

‘Pharis?’ Tammy felt her blood boil. Why would Pharis be meeting up with her ex? ‘Did he say what he wanted?’

‘No, he just said he’d arranged to meet Pharis at the shop and—Oo, he’s coming out.’

Tammy watched Mina as she followed Richi with her eyes. ‘What’s he doing now?’

‘He’s walking back to his car... Now he’s getting in.’ Tammy heard an engine firing into life. ‘Now he’s driving away. We’ll wait a bit, Tammy. Make sure he’s gone before we leave.’

Tammy sank lower in her seat, her mind racing with a mixture of emotions. She couldn’t help but wonder why Richi had come looking for her. What did he want? He already had the apartment, the car, and the business. What more could he get from her?

As they waited in tense silence, Tammy couldn’t shake the feeling that her past was colliding with her present in unexpected ways, and she had no idea where this collision would lead.
