Like the hot headed bastard I am, I reacted badly.

It was a fucked up situation. But we can’t spend the rest of our lives trapped in it.

She was always mine, and she’ll always be mine.

Now it’s time for her to understand that.

I wanted to be a better fucking person and give her some space, not bulldoze my way in, kidnap her, and hold her captive in my mansion until she finally saw reason.

And where did that get me?

Her sitting across from a man who isn’t bloody me.

So fuck being the good guy. It’s vastly overrated.

It’s time I show her what she really means to me.

Chapter 54

Piper

Robert takes a sip of his drink while Isaak acts like a complete arsehole every time the man opens his mouth.

I suppose that tells me exactly where his loyalties lie.

I take a sip of my champagne as Adelaide smirks into her glass.

Eleanor offers us the occasional smile, but she doesn’t seem entirely present. Her thoughts appear elsewhere, while Ido’s attention never strays far from her.

It’s been over an hour since Robert approached me and offered to buy me a drink. I accepted reluctantly, because it’s time to move on.

I’m not ready to actually move on. My heart still belongs to that infuriating man, but I have to try. If nothing else, I can try to make friends, have a conversation.

Robert and I have nothing in common.

Or it could just be my mind trying to sabotage me.

“So tomorrow I can pick you up and we can have breakfast together,” Robert says.

I offer him a polite smile.

“If you don’t remove yourself from my woman this instant, you won’t live to see midnight, let alone tomorrow morning’s breakfast.”

I snap my head up and meet his eyes.

Amber eyes.

For a second, I lose myself in them.

Damn him.

He looks unfairly good, sitting tall and broad in a flawlessly fitted suit, his chocolate brown hair immaculate.

His jaw is tight, and heat burns in his eyes as he takes me in. Then his attention shifts to Robert, and those amber irises darken to pitch black.

Rage hardens his features as he takes a step towards him.

Isaak smirks, looking pleased. Adelaide looks no different, and when I catch her eye, she winks at me.
