Only when he looked at his guard a second time did Beck hit the call button. The other two elevators opened in seconds, but it took several minutes before the one his mate had disappeared into finally opened.Stepping inside, he looked at his friend and nodded.Beck and two other guards stepped into the elevator behind him.
The guards held a brief conversation before Beck hit every button on the panel.A moment later, the elevator began to rise.
At each floor, the doors opened and Fenrir stepped out of the elevator in his wolf form.He breathed deep as he circled the area. But on each floor there was no trace of his mate’s scent, so he would return to the elevator and impatiently wait for the doors to open again.
When they reached the floor just below the penthouse and there was still no sign of her, Fenrir returned to the elevator with a sad whine. She could not have disappeared with no trace.
“The basement,” Beck said as he hit one last button.Fenrir walked in circles as the box descended, not stopping until they reached the lowest level of the building.
As soon as the door opened, Fenrir stepped out and growled before taking off down the hallway to the left. The scent grew stronger as he followed it down the hall to a utility room near the end. This was where the trash was collected into dumpsters from a trash shoot that ran vertically through the building.
He circled the room, but the scent ended at the lift that raised the dumpsters out of the basement onto the sidewalk where they were picked up and hauled away by the city.Looking at Beck, he whined again and circled on the lift.
“Raise the lift. She’s been taken out of the building,” Beck ordered before he and a second guard joined him.
In the next moment, the lift began to rise.As soon as they were outside the building, Fenrir circled and picked up her trail once again.Whoever had her had carried her down the sidewalk. How had they not been seen by the humans while carrying an unconscious woman down the street?
Chapter Fourteen
Summer’s fingers andtoes began to tingle.Once the tingling eased, she tried to wiggle them and was happy to feel them move in response to her thoughts.Soon the tingling continued up her legs and arms and into her body.Gritting her teeth, she held back screams as the tingling grew painful.
She forced herself to remain limp as her body came back to life. She’d been listening to the two men as they carried her through the city and their plans scared the shit out of her. They’d been traveling through the alleys of the city, though she wasn’t sure where they ended up, but from what little she could see, it was a warehouse district.
They eventually entered a building and their steps across the concrete floor echoed through the large, empty space. They walked across the concrete and past a half dozen men who watched in silence into a small room at the back of the building.
“It’s about time,” a deep voice growled, sending an involuntary shiver of fear through Summer.“What took you so damn long?”
“She’s never alone. If it’s not that hybrid monster beside her whenever she leaves the penthouse, it’s one of his top guards. We were lucky to catch her tonight.”
“Fine, fine.Lay her on the table and join the others.I’ll take care of her and we’ll cripple Fenrir North by taking hisDrottningand making her ours.”
Summer waited until the two men who’d stolen her from the locker room laid her down and left the room, closing the door behind them.Turning her head, she watched as a man wearing a hooded black robe lit a half dozen candles on a shelf across the room.
Once they were lit, he stepped back and knelt as he began to chant. She did not understand the words, but they had a familiar sound to them.Like something Fenrir had said while talking on the phone when he didn’t want her to know what was going on.
She sat up slowly, not wanting to catch the man’s attention. She then looked around for a weapon, needing something to keep him from doing whatever it was he was planning. From the look of the men outside, and the sense that the table they’d laid her on was more of an altar than a table, she had a feeling she was about to be gang raped.
