Harper: But you won’t be alone! Josie will still be there. She just can’t lift much, and has to take it easy for a couple more weeks. Plus you met Shiloh a couple times already.
Scrubbing my hand over my face, a sigh falls from my lips. This girl. I love her to pieces, she's so considerate. I'm good with my savings so I would have been fine for a bit before I had to start stressing about work.
My only issue is, she gave my number to Xavier's best friends. Which, let's be clear, her giving them my number isn’t the issue here. The issue here is they're both fucking attractive and a thousand percent my type. Working for them is going to be torture knowing I can't do anything about it.
Evie: Fiiiine, I guess I will wait and see if they call. They could not call. *shrug emoji*
Harper: Whatever helps you sleep at night babes. I’m going to bed though, I’ll talk to you in the morning.
Evie: and I’m going to go get lost in my omegaverse until I pass out anddream of Alphas.
*Harper laugh reacts to your response*
Tossing my phone back to my nightstand, I grab my book and dive into the story.
Rousing from sleep, I roll on my back trying to figure out what woke me. Sleeping so deep that I didn’t dream at all, which I haven’t had that kind of sleep in awhile. A buzzing noise catches my attention, realizing it was my phone that woke me. Army crawling across the bed, I throw my hand forward, wrapping my fingers around the device. Flipping the phone, my eyes take a minute to adjust to what’s on my screen.
A number I don't recognize is displayed on the screen. Before I can fully process much, I accept the call.
“I’m barely awake, I don’t do mornings unless you’re bringing omelets or orgasms.”
The other line is silent for a few minutes, I pull back to make sure the call’s still connected.
“Uh, is this Evie?”
In an instant I’m sitting up straight, smoothing my hair down before it dawns on me that I’m on the phone so no one is going to be looking at me right now.
“Uh yes. Hi. This is Evie.”
“Hey. This is Monty. My wife and I met you at Xavier’s parents lodge on New Year's Eve?”
Fuck. “Yes! I remember. Harper messaged me last night and told me you might be calling.”
Throwing my blankets off my body, I roll off my bed before I begin to pace my small bedroom. I rent a room with a few other people who are going to the local college. It’s not much but it’s a place to sleep.
“Ah, yeah. That totally makes sense. So, after talking with my wife, we were wondering if you’d be free tonight to come by for supper? You knowjust to get to know each other a bit more–see how you are with Shiloh and Hayes.”
Well that was straight and to the point. I can respect that.
“I’ll have to see if my schedule is free–” I pause for dramatic effect, but I don’t think the guy noticed my sarcasm.
“Oh, well it doesn’thaveto be tonight. It can be whatever evening works for you.”
A pregnant pause fills the space, my teeth sink into the bottom of my lip as I try to stifle a laugh.
“I’m free.”
“Okay, cool. Cool. How does five sound?”
“That sounds good.” My heart begins to beat a bit faster at the thought of going over to their place.
Nervous energy flutters in my chest with every passing hour leading up to five. I have reorganized my closet– color coding my clothes. I ended up having to reorganize my closet again, after I took everything out to decide what to wear to this supper.
Deciding on something casual, I give myself one last look in the mirror before I leave. My dark washed boyfriend jeans paired with my favorite brown leather belt with its textured buckle. My favorite raspberry knit cardigan comforts me over this simple grey basic t-shirt. Adjusting the bun on the top of my head, I don’t overthink it as I grab my jacket, bag and keys.
I turn onto the street my GPS directs me to. There are only a few houses down this street, each property having significant space between the other. Close neighbors but not so close that you can see into their house from your kitchen window.
Pulling into the third house on the left, I take in the modern core floor farm house as it grows closer. The natural color of the house is amplified by the dark wood that takes up the front porch and doors. Around to theside of the house is a detached two story garage that follows the same color scheme of the main house.
