“Is that it, Silver? He just gets away with it. He doesn’t pay at all.” The need for justice is strong. I want to kill him for hurting my girl.

Silver’s mouth curves up slightly. “Oh, he’ll pay. I have a lot more on him than those tapes of Cat’s. I was already working on it when Cat came here. He’ll get what’s coming to him.”

I try to fill satisfaction at that, but all I can focus on is the sobs that finally break free from Cat’s throat.

My girl. I need to take care of my girl.

Chapter Fifteen

Cat

No one can ever rip us apart again. -Cat

I lay awake the next morning for a long time. Tornado softly snores beside me as I stare at the ceiling and try to come to terms with yesterday.

I cried all last night and I honestly don’t know why. Yes, my dad’s words hurt, but I had always known I wasn’t important to him. I had always known that he probably didn’t love me, that he wasn’t really capable of it.

Something was broken inside of me though. That something was hope. I had always had hope that one day, maybe one day, I could be a part of a family, that I could be loved and accepted by my mother and father. And now that hope was well and truly gone.

Tornado stirs and I look over at him. His eyes slowly open and even as he blinks in reaction to the sunlight streaming through the windows, he reaches for me.

“Are you okay, sweetheart?” he asks in a voice gruff from sleep.

I turn onto my side and let him spoon me. “I’m going to be okay. I’ll make it through this.”

Tornado lightly kisses my neck. “I could kill him for hurting you so much. I want to kill him.” I can hear the hardness in his voice.

My knight. My knight in shining armor. He would slay all my dragons for me if he could.

“No, he’s not worth losing you. He’s not worth anything.”

Tornado pulls me in closer. “You are my family, Cat. And one day soon I’ll give you a ring to prove that.”

My heart pounds hard in my chest. I turn in his arms to look at him. There’s a slight smile on his face and warmth in his eyes.

“You will?” I ask, not sure what else to say.

Yes, I want to marry this man. Yes, I want to be completely his.

He tucks a piece of hair behind my ear. “Of course, I will. You’re mine, Cat. You always have been. I want to create a family with you, to see you be mother to my children, and to eventually grow old with you and sit on some rocking chairs on our porch. I plan to be around to annoy you for a long time.”

I grin. “I want that too.” I reach out and caress his bearded cheek. “I want all of it. I love you, Tornado. So much.”

“I love you too, Kitty Cat. Always.”

When we make love that morning, it’s slow and unhurried. It’s more than just sex. As I sink down on his cock and his gaze meets mine, there’s something more than even just love there. There’s a promise. A promise of forever.

Epilogue

Cat

The family you create is sometimes better than the one you were born into. -Cat

“Can you pass me that wrench on the stool, Cat?” Tornado asks in a muffled voice. He’s leaning over his bike, fiddling with something again. The man is forever fixing something up on his bike. It gives him pleasure and it’s kind of sexy to watch him do it, so I just sigh and reach for the closest tool.

“You got it,” I hand him what I think is the wrench without even looking up from my sketch. I’m sketching him again. He’s my favorite subject, of course. I shade in the dark tufts of his hair and catch my bottom lip between my teeth.Still not exactly right.

“Um, Kitty Cat, that’s not a wrench, that’s a screwdriver,” he says in an amused voice. “The wrench is to your right.”
