“Yeah, but they only work with high profile clients.”

“Yeah, I can tell. Don’t worry though. You got this. You gonna walk out of this building employed.”

“I sure the fuck hope so.”

I took a deep breath and got out the car slowly. I walked up to the door, hoping that I would walk out with a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I walked through the double doors with my head held high, like I wasn’t just nervous a few seconds ago. There was a woman sitting at a desk right in front of me, and I walked toward it, heels clicking against the floor with each step I took.

“Hello.” I smiled, keeping my voice calm. “I’m here for an interview. My name is Saniyah Brooks.”

She glanced up from her computer and smiled before nodding her head. “Have a seat over there.” She pointed. “Someone will be with you shortly.”

I thanked her then turned and walked toward the seating area. I looked around at the expensive black and silver décor. A few people walked past me in black suits with badges attached to the jackets. The entire building looked out of my league, but I needed this job, so I was damn sure going to go through with the interview. I crossed my legs and took several deep breaths, urging myself to relax. However, my heart felt like it was beating outside my chest.

“Ms. Brooks?” I heard a voice call out to me.

I looked up, and for a second, my mouth dropped. The man standing in front of me was so fine that I had to do a double take. He was tall, standing at about six foot three, and was dressed in a pair of black slacks and a black fitted shirt. His dark brown skin was smooth, and his low cut and beard were lined perfectly. His eyes were a root beer brown, and his muscular frame let me know that he worked out – I was talking every day.

“Hello.” I smiled, standing to my feet.

“Kadeem Price,” he introduced, extending his hand.

His voice was smooth and deep, the kind of voice that could talk the panties off a bitch without even trying. I placed my hand in his and instantly noticed how strong his hands were.

“Nice to meet you.”

He nodded his head and led me down a long hallway lined with glass walls and closed office doors. We stopped in front of a door with his name on it, and I followed him inside, hearing the door click shut behind me.

“Have a seat, Ms. Brooks.”

I walked over to one of the black leather chairs that sat across from the huge desk in the middle of the office. The entire office was glass, just like the rest of the building. The floor to ceiling windows overlooked the river, and I could only imagine how beautiful the view was at night. There was a small black marble bar on the far wall, and huge paintings in black, silver, and white hung from the walls. He walked over and sat behind his desk.

“So, Saniyah,” he spoke, leaning back slightly in his chair, “tell me about yourself.”

“Well,” I began, “I’ve been working in administrative roles for the past few years. Scheduling, handling calls, organizing files, things of that nature. So, I’m very familiar with this type of work.”

“What was your reason for leaving your last position?”

“My last position ended due to budget cuts just a few weeks ago,” I answered honestly. “But I’m looking to get right back into something stable.”

“Okay.” Kadeem nodded. “But let me ask you this. Do you handle pressure well? This job can be a lot at times, and I need to know that you can handle that.”

“I work well under pressure, and I’m also a fast learner. So, I’m sure I can handle anything you throw my way.”

“I sure hope so.”

It wasn’t what he said but how he said it, almost as if he knew I was about to get myself in too deep but didn’t want to come out and say it. I didn’t respond to his statement, just smiled and nodded my head. It was more so because I didn’t know what to say to that. I then watched as he glanced over a copy of my resume before he looked back up at me.

“You know we deal with high profile clientele, correct?”

“Yes, I’m aware.” I nodded.

“That means we have celebrities walking through here every day, and you have to remain professional. You can’t be gettingall star struck if you see your favorite rapper walk through the door.”

I nodded, letting him know that I understood. “I can assure you that I can remain professional at work, no matter who walks through the door. I’m here to do a job, and that is my priority.”

Kadeem smiled and nodded his head, and I could tell he was pleased with my answer. For a few beats, he didn’t speak, just looked at me. It wasn’t awkward. I could just tell he was analyzing me, probably trying to figure out if I was good enough for the position. Even with that, it was something about him that had calmed my nervousness and put me at ease. Maybe it was his calm tone or laidback persona. Maybe it was the fact that he had warmed the small box between my thighs the moment I saw him. Whatever it was, I was ten times more relaxed than I had been when I walked inside the building.

“Well, Ms. Brooks, I don’t think I have anymore questions for you, but do you have any for me?”
