He got into the driver’s seat, starting the car, before looking over at me. “What’s your address?”

I gave it to him and watched as he typed it into his GPS. I sat back in the soft leather seat, and he pulled out the parking lot. For a moment, we rode in silence until Kadeem finally spoke.

“Tomorrow, you’ll have a company car. You need something reliable. You can’t be waiting on rides or having a broke down car every few months.”

“A company car? Kadeem, are you serious?”

He pulled to a red light then looked over at me. “I’m very serious. You need reliable transportation so that you can get to work every day. You’re a part of the company, so you can have a company car.”

I was taken aback, not believing that this man was going to give me a car on my first day of work. I couldn’t do anything but thank him. If the shit was too good to be true, then we would cross that bridge when we got to it. Kadeem seemed trustworthy, so I didn’t think there would be any strings attached to a company car. He was right. I did need reliable transportation, and Nazuri had just proved that when she forgot to pick me up today.

When we pulled up to my apartment building, Kadeem stopped in front of it and placed his SUV in park. He let me know that I could take a ride share to work tomorrow, and the company would cover the expenses. He also told me that he would draw up all the paperwork for the car, and I would be able to drive it home tomorrow evening. With that, I thanked him again and got out the SUV.

CHAPTER 4

Crue

Isat at my desk and looked down at my watch. It was six o’clock, and I knew I should have been gone by now. The office was quiet because most of the employees had already gone home for the day. I leaned back in my chair, eyes on the computer screen in front of me, but I wasn’t reading it anymore. My day had been long, filled with meetings and calls from clients that wanted things handled immediately. I was trying to go over the last few reports I had left before I went home, but the day had gotten the best of me. I reached for the glass sitting on my desk, taking a slow sip before setting it back down.

I pushed my chair away from my desk and stood up, walking over to the window and looking out at my city. It had been a couple of weeks since Saniyah had started, and I had to admit that she was doing way better than I thought she would. She caught on quick, and that was always a good thing in this business. I couldn’t lie; she might have been the best secretary we’d had since we started the business.

Not only was she good at her job, but she was also beautiful. I always thought that it was good to have a little eye candy around the office. As hard as I was on her in the first two weeks she’d worked here, I was glad that she didn’t fold under the pressurethat I had been applying. There were moments where I just watched her while she worked, maybe from my office or down the hallway. She worked so effortlessly, as if the job was made just for her.

Sitting back at my desk, I glanced at my computer once more. I thought about finishing up but then quickly decided against it. After shutting down my computer, I grabbed my belongings and walked out of my office. Saniyah was still sitting at her desk when I walked out, and I frowned.

“You still here? I thought you would have left at five with everyone else,” I asked as I walked up to the desk.

She looked up at me, smiling faintly. “I didn’t want to leave without getting everything done. Once I finish inputting this last page of clients, I’ll be leaving.”

I nodded before letting her know to have a good night and walking out the building. I didn’t have anything planned tonight other than going home and relaxing. I was going to stop by my favorite Italian spot, grab me some pasta, and take my ass home. Getting into my car, I rolled my windows down instead of turning on the air. It was a beautiful day outside, and I wanted to enjoy some of the fresh air.

Once I made it home with my carryout, I opened all the blinds before placing my pasta on a plate and grabbing a beer from the fridge. I’d just sat down at my kitchen island when my phone rang. Looking down at the screen, I saw it was Kadeem and swiped the talk button.

“What up doe?” I answered.

“What up doe? We got a client that’s having a private event on Friday night. I have to be in Atlanta that day, so I need you to handle it.”

“I got it, just email me the details.”

“I already did. You have to blend in though, so you’re going to have to bring a date. Not one of the lil hoodrats though. You have to bring someone classy.”

I laughed. “Nigga, not too much on me. I fuck with a lot of classy bitches.”

“Oh, okay. I must not have met them yet.”

“Oh, you got hella jokes today, huh?”

“I’m just saying. But on some real shit, I think you should take Saniyah. I think she will play the part well, and it will be a chance for the two of you to get to know each other.”

My brow raised at his suggestion. Saniyah was the last person that I would think to take on a job. She was a secretary and wasn’t even into security. But for some reason, Kadeem wanted me to take her, and I didn’t understand why.

“I don’t feel like that would be the best idea,” I responded.

“I do. She already works for the company, and we know she carries herself well. For what you need on the job, she’s perfect. Just ask her tomorrow and let her know it will be overtime. If she says she can’t, then just find someone else.”

“Alright, I don’t know why you want me to, but I’ll ask her.”

I ended the call and continued to eat my pasta. Once I was done with dinner, I decided to check my email and read the details of this job. It was a private dinner party with our team working as waiters for added security. There was a mandatory plus one, which was why I needed a date. The fact that Kadeem thought that date should be Saniyah was something I still didn’t understand. That nigga had something up his sleeve. I just wasn’t sure what it was yet.
