‘Okay, now your turn.’

‘Well, ditto on the pricklish thing. I can be hot-headed and fly off the handle. And I’m a control freak about my restaurant.’

Lou grinned.

‘So did you tell Jack you were going out with me tonight?’

‘Yes, I did. Is that okay? I didn’t say it was a date or anything – just said we were going out for dinner.’

‘It’s fine. I told Bo it’s a date.’

‘Was she okay with that?’

‘She was delighted. She practically has us married off already, just to warn you. She’s probably picking out her bridesmaid dress as we speak.’

Lou laughed. ‘Jack was pretty happy about it too. It’s good to know our kids are rooting for us. At least that’s one hurdle we don’t have to jump.’

‘Yeah, it’s great they get on so well.’

‘Actually, we probably have them to thank for us being here in the first place. If we hadn’t been forced to put up with each other for their sakes, I doubt we’d even be on this date.’

‘I’m not so sure about that. I mean, you kind of stole my heart the first day we met when you offered to arm-wrestle me.’

Lou laughed.

‘They’re not the only ones rooting for us either. Mum was beside herself when Bo told her we were going on a date. She was so smug, you’d think she’d arranged it herself.’

Lou thought back to Bo’s party and Sheena offering to set her up with someone in front of Aidan and how annoyed he’d been by it. Maybe Sheena had more to do with this date than he realised.

‘So does that mean we can move on to sleepovers soon?’ Lou asked.

‘God, I hope so. Otherwise, we’re going to have to resort to doing it in the larder at work and I don’t think that would comply with the regulations on health and safety in the workplace.’

Lou giggled. ‘No, there’s probably a reason it’s not covered in the manual.’
