He gave him another pinch, gentler this time. “Okay, show me.”

Skyler climbed off the bed and went over to Trevor’s guitar case propped against the desk. He unzipped it and took out the guitar, cradling it carefully as he flipped the desk chair around and sat facing the bed.

Trevor quirked an eyebrow in curiosity. He’d been working on teaching Skyler to play, though they hadn’t gotten very far, and he’d brought the guitar at Skyler’s request, assuming he wanted to learn some more. But now as Skyler placed his fingers assuredly on the strings, it looked as if he was about to play on his own.

“All right, so I’ve been working on something,” Skyler said. “And it’s not even close to finished, but I wanted you to hear it because… Well, you’ll see.”

“You wrote a song?”

“I wrote a small piece of a song,” Skyler corrected.

“But how?”

“Would you just be quiet and listen?”

Trevor nodded hurriedly, because this definitely had his interest. “Yup. Quiet. Listening.”

Skyler smiled shyly, but as he began to play the slow melody and sing, he did it with as much confidence as he displayed whenever he was onstage.

Baby, don’t listen to what they say

Just rumors and jealousy

Trying to get between you and me

But at the end of the day, you know

It’s always you

And it’s you

It’s you I will come home to

You I do belong to

It’s you

It’s you I’d give my all to

You I’d fight and crawl to

Oh, it’s you, it’s you, it’s you

It took Trevor a few moments to realize the music had stopped and Skyler was now looking at him nervously. He didn’t know what to say. Or more like he had so many things to say that he didn’t know where to start.

Skyler bit his lip and gently set the guitar on the floor beside him. “Well?”

“I can’t believe you wrote that for me.”

“Who said it’s for you?”

He gave a mock offended gasp, but Skyler was grinning.

He didn’t understand how Skyler had managed to write it by himself. They’d written lyrics together before, and with the rest of the band, but Skyler had never written music. Trevor hadn’t taught him that much yet.

“So did you like it?” Skyler asked.

“Are you kidding?” he said.
