She could never be a bother, and I’m angry at her for not telling me sooner that she was sick.
She fucking fainted in my arms.
She’s already falling asleep; her body is tired from the infection.
As soon as she’s asleep again, I’m calling a doctor.
“You’re not a hassle. You’re the light of my fucking day,” I tell her, but she’s already fast asleep.
I stay with her for a while, making sure she’s okay, before I make my way out of the room and call a doctor.
Harriet is already cooking up chicken soup, which smells delicious.
“What happened?” she asks me when I enter the kitchen.
“She texted me, asked me to come to her apartment, and when I got there, she fainted in my arms. I haven’t seen her all day, as I had an early morning practice, and she just said she was staying home.”
I’m angry at myself for the distance between us. If things had been different between us, I would have known sooner.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve been texting throughout the day, but after the fiasco this weekend, it was the first day I hadn’t talked to her much.
Now, I’m livid knowing she is sick, and she didn’t even tell me before it got so bad.
“Something happened between you two? I thought she usually went with you to the stadium.”
Harriet doesn’t miss anything.
Considering the assholes I have as my friends and how effortlessly they flirted with Lily yesterday when they know I’m crazy for her, well… I won’t be speaking with them about this.
They’ll only give me more shit about not making a move.
Therefore, Harriet seems like the best option.
“I almost kissed her. And then I pulled away from her. She’s the sister of my best friend, and I’m afraid of losing both of them if this doesn’t work out.”
Harriet thinks over what I just said, saying nothing for a while.
She may work as my chef, but Harriet has also become someone I ask for advice every now and then.
She’s lived a colourful and exciting life, and whenever she shares her insights, I’m deeply grateful.
“Hm, that’s tough, Sebastian James, but do you think you’ll manage to stay away from her? I’ve seen you around her, you know, and I must say, I’m surprised you haven’t kissed her, considering how you look at her.”
I exhale.
Wherever I go, the people around me seem to know how I feel about this girl.
I may not have been as secretive about my feelings as I thought.
Harriet is right. I won’t be able to stay away from her; I don’t want to, either.
“Yeah, I won’t. Right now, though, the priority is her health. I’ll call her brother.”
I get up and dial Luke’s number, hoping he’ll pick up.
Luckily, he does.
“Hey, man.”
