‘OK, but what if youhadto because, well, it’s my game and you have to…’

Alex smirked. ‘Fine…Sense and Sensibility.’

‘Is that Brontë?’

‘Austen,’ she replied. ‘Emma Thompson kills me every time.’

‘Not a bad choice,’ he said. ‘Though period dramas are not—’

‘Wait… maybeNever Been Kissed,’ Alex interjected. ‘I love Drew Barrymore.’

‘Right, OK—’

‘Actually, scrap that, I’m going withOldboy. I’ve watched that film a million times. Have you seen it? Utterly brilliant.’

‘Oldboy?’ he repeated. ‘Are you serious?’

‘Yes. It’s genius.’

He began to chuckle.

‘What’s so funny? I’m a big fan of Asian cinema.’

He paused and lifted some pebbles from the embankment. ‘It’s nothing. I just love that movie too.’

‘And what would your number one be?’

He shook his head. ‘Impossible to choose just one. Like trying to choose your favourite child.’

Alex laughed loudly.

Skimming the pebbles into the lough, he considered this. ‘I’d probably have to say…True Romance.’

‘Good choice,’ she replied. ‘You like a little violence with your love life, eh?’

He smiled. ‘Maybe. I think it’s just like the idea of two people just being so hopelessly right for each other.’

‘And here’s me choosing a film about unspeakable revenge.’

‘I know, right?’ he replied. ‘God, Alex, you’re so edgy. Who’s your favourite band? Napalm Death?’

Despite having never heard of them, she snorted at the name alone. ‘No,’ she responded. ‘Though they sound super fun. Any more questions?’

‘Yeah, one actually,’ he admitted. ‘What exactly is a lough? Is it just a lake?’

She giggled. ‘That’s technically two questions but fine. Yeah, it’s just a lake. A sea inlet. Irish call them loughs, Scots call them lochs.’

‘Easier just to say lake, huh?’ he replied, grinning. ‘And easier to spell.’

She playfully rolled her eyes. ‘Sure, but where would you be without us Celts making the world a little more colourful?’

Bzz. Bzz.

Aiden pulled his phone from his pocket.

‘It’s Tara,’ he said, briefly flashing the message. ‘I should probably head back.’

‘You should,’ Alex replied. ‘I think I’ll hang out here a little longer, look at thelake.’
