Erin gave Alex a little heartening smile as Tara looked like she was going to vomit. ‘She has a point, Alex. I mean, I’m not excusing her drunken need to shag the entire city of Dublin—’

‘Hey!’

‘—but regardless, he obviously wasn’t madly in love with you and is therefore a feckin’ eejit by anyone’s standards because you’re extremely loveable.’

‘I am,’ Alex responded quietly, giving a little sniff. ‘But I’m still mad at Tara.’

Tara slunk down on the sofa beside her. ‘I am really sorry,’ Tara whispered, giving her a nudge. ‘My bad.’

‘Don’t push it,’ Alex replied with a smirk.

As Tara went back to bed and Erin returned to her book, Alex found herself in the kitchen making tea she didn’t want, just to get some alone time.
