Jo whips her head around, growling at me. “Take that negative energy out of my fuckin’ nest.”

My brows shoot up.Negative energy?

I’ve never been with an omega in heat before, so I’m not sure how it affects their temperament exactly, but this is obviously a side of Jo I’ve never seen. Raising my hands in a placatinggesture, I keep my voice calm. “No negative energy here, Trouble. Just…we’ll have to wait to bond now.”

I don’t have time to blink before she’s tackling me. My back sinks into the mattress as she straddles my waist, leaning over me with a murderous expression.

“Woah, Siren—” West starts, but I glance over at him, shaking my head. Jo’s omega is front and center, and I have a feeling that despite my apologies and fixing my attitude, she still has a bone to pick with me.

West’s mouth snaps shut, and I don’t miss the way Kole and Hayden don’t even try to hide their smirks.

Cheeky bastards.

She leans down until our noses are almost touching. She must have sweat the rest of the way through the de-scenter spray because her apple cinnamon goodness calls to my alpha. I can feel him fighting to take over, but I am not so powerless that I’ll be lost to a rut before I have a chance to bond her.

“You don’t want to bond?” Her voice is deadly quiet, a raging fire in her eyes.

“Of course I do,” I struggle to keep my tone level, “but your heat—”

“Then bite me,” she growls, “bite me right fuckin’ now Sam, or I swear—”

My alpha hijacks my body. That’s the only explanation for why I lunge forward, sinking my teeth into the crook of her neck without any foreplay.

She cries out, a sound of half pain and half pleasure as I pull back, and then she’s striking the same spot on me. Pain lances through my skin, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. Especially when it fades to a burning pleasure.

And then the damndest thing happens.

Something like a tether snaps into existence, connecting our souls together. She is fire, burning as bright as the sun inside mychest, and I stare up at her, her green eyes zeroing in on the bite mark she left on me.

“Mine,” she declares, leaning down and running her tongue over the mark. “You’re mine now, Sammy-boy,” her gaze meets mine, “no take-backs.”

“I’vebeenyours,” I correct her, catching her off guard as I grip her hips and flip us over so she’s underneath me, and nothing but a sense of thrill comes through the bond as I lift her leg and slide inside of her. Red tinges my vision as her hot, wet heat envelops me, and I blink, trying to keep possession of myself.

“He is going into rut,” Kole’s voice reaches me even as my blood roars in my ears.

“Oh!” my omega cries out, her nails digging into my arms. Her eyes are clouding over, her body heat nearly burning me as my hips drive forward, the rut slowly taking over.

They’re both gone. Jo to her heat, her eyes clouded and single-minded, Sam to the rut.

A fact that’s only confirmed when Sam flips her onto her hands and knees, ass in the air, and all Jo does is give a half-hearted snarl before burying her face in the mattress.

“Hayden,” I bark, and the alpha drops his hands from his pants like I caught him…well, doing exactly what he was doing. “Go downstairs and make sure we have enough food to last us at least three days.” The young alpha looks like he wants to protest, but ultimately huffs a breath, heading for the door of the nest. “Kole, make sure these two…” I motion towards Jo and Sam,unable to help but notice how even in the midst of a rut, his hands run over her body with nothing but reverence.

“Keep fucking?” Kole offers with a smirk before clapping me on the back. “You know, it is kind of nice when you take charge,Bratukha.” My knowledge of Russian is limited, but it has the same base as what he calls Hayden—Bratishka—and he said it affectionately, so I won’t worry about it right now. “I will make sure they have what they need until this wave is over. What are you going to do?”

“I…” I take a deep breath. “I’m going to wash all of Jo’s scent off me so I don’t go into Declan’s house smelling like his sister in heat, and then I’m going to give him an update.”

Hayden snorts as he goes out the door. “Good luck with that, Doctor Love.”

Oh, great.Anothernew nickname.

Twenty minutes later, I raise my hand to knock on Declan’s door, but before my fist meets the wood, it swings open. Aidan stares at me, head tilted, a pair of over-ear headphones around his neck.

He’s an odd one, to be sure, but he’s not unkind. When he was showing me how to work the equipment in the surveillance van, he was patient and straightforward. Though he doesn’t seem to be one for social niceties either, so I’m a little confused that he came to the door at all. “How did you…?” I trail off, looking at my hand still raised in the air before quickly lowering it.
